Welcome to the Illinois Early Intervention Training Program. Below you will find some helpful information that will help you navigate the requirements for new providers in the Illinois Early Intervention System. The Illinois Interagency Council on Early Intervention's "Principles of Early Intervention" guide the outcomes we hope to achieve through Early Intervention and our Early Intervention Training Model. All early interventionists in Illinois should adhere to these principles as they serve children and families. Early Interventionists may want to reflect on what each principles means to them and what it looks like in practice. This activity can be done individually, with peers, and with families.

Launched in September 2022, Be Part of Early Intervention has resources to help explore EI professions and a mailing list to join. The Be Part of EI video provides an overview of early intervention and explains how you may be able to help a family in early intervention. Additionally, this video from Personnel Improvement Center at NASDSE provides information about careers in early intervention, focusing on interviews with specialists themselves. The required Illinois Early Intervention System Overview trainings listed below must be completed within the 3 years prior to applying for an Illinois Early Intervention Credential. If completed more than 3 years before applying for the credential, individuals will need to repeat both.

EITP sponsors numerous training events each year that support the mission and vision of the Illinois Early Intervention System. Our "Non-EITP Events" calendar also includes events from other sponsoring entities that have been reviewed by EITP for Early Intervention credit. These events are shared as training resources to the field. These reviewed events are posted to our training calendar as a courtesy not as an endorsement. Please check the calendar for the amount of credit for each event. Training events may be face-to-face or online.

Below are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding being new to the EI system and getting credentialing hours. We also have an entire section for those who are New to EI and invite you to take a look through the different sections on that page. If this is not the area you meant to view, please return to our FAQ Page and find the section where you need some assistance.

All providers entering the IL Early Intervention System are required to complete the Online Systems Overview and Online System Overview Follow-up (SOFU). To register, please visit the EITP Online Events Calendar for Online Systems Overview and for the second part visit the Upcoming Sessions of SOFU page. EITP also has Training Path Recommendations for New Providers (pdf), which outlines recommended trainings and how to find trainings for new EI providers. If you are not a provider, but instead are a service coordinator, interpreter/translator, or parent liaison, you have different requirements. Please see the Required Trainings section on our New to EI page for details. Beyond the required trainings, EITP develops curriculum that reflects Illinois policies and procedures as well as research based best practices in the field of early intervention.

Any training activity sponsored by EITP is a good choice and is endorsed by the IL Bureau of Early Intervention. These activities are posted on our website through the EITP Events Calendar. Unless otherwise noted, these training events/activities are open to all early interventionists with online registration available. We also offer a variety of online training curriculum through the EITP Online Events Calendar. For both calendars, simply click on the event title for details. Other upcoming events, that have been through the EI credit review process and determined to be appropriate to count towards your Illinois early intervention credential, can be found on our Non-EITP Events Calendar.

However, EITP neither endorses, guarantees, nor promotes the content of those training events.
