📢How To Negotiate Speaking Fees📢 If you are a thought leader, lawyer, or entrepreneur, chances are you've been asked to speak at an event. Honestly, most speaking events I turn down, because I prefer writing content or the events do not offer any sort of compensation, and the ROI is just not there. However, I do choose to present when I decide it's a good fit. If you would like my introductory email template for negotiating speaking fees, comment "negotiate" below, and I'll send it to you for free. In addition, here are my tips for speaking engagement negotiations: 1. ASK: Ask if the event has a budget for speaking fees, travel costs, or lodging.

2. OPEN MIND: Keep an open mind when you are approached to be a speaker. Perhaps this event is not something you can agree to, but there many be future or alternative opportunities to partner. 3. RESPECTFULLY DECLINE: You always have the option to respectfully decline the invitation. Don't feel pressure to accept every solicitation that comes your way.

4. EVALUATE: Take the time to critically evaluate what ROI you can receive from speaking at this engagement. Measure out how much time you will give, and what the opportunity cost is for your participation. 5. COLLABORATE: Collaborate with other peers in your industry to see what's standard for speaking engagements, and what experiences they have had with speaking fees.
