"Katie was instrumental in my case with a public school division. She was personable, knowledgeable, kind, and transparent. After my issue was resolved, I hired Katie and her team again for another issue. Practice Update: I currently have 4 attorneys, and will add a 5th attorney in March. I still want to stay small, and do not want to grow a law firm. There is still a huge, HUGE benefit to working with a small law firm as a client, from a quality control and cost standpoint. And even though there is pressure as a law firm owner to grow, grow, GROW your firm larger - I don't think that is the most profitable, or sustainable path, for me personally. I've been talking to a lot of law firm owners lately who have grown their firms, regretted it, and then scaled back down. I've talked to solos who plan to stay solos because they've tried to hire lawyers and it went horribly wrong.
There's no right or wrong size for a law firm. However, for me - I plan to stay small. I love how lean it allows me to be. I will still work with co-counsel as needed to expand. What experiences have you had with firm sizes? Bigger doesn't necessarily mean better.

It's so nice to hear you say that, Katie Lipp! I love having a small firm. While there were some benefits to being at a larger firm, small firm life feels more authentic to who I am and the message I want to send to clients.
I want to connect with my clients, have them feel comfortable, and be accessible to them. Having a small firm, I get to work in a beautiful old house turned office, create a space that is welcoming and calming, and be present in a way that I don't think I... Family Law Attorney and Child Welfare Specialist. Author of We Need to Talk About the Kids, a blog about putting your kids first in divorce and separation. Virginia + Washington, DC Employment and Business Lawyer + Law Firm Owner | Business Coach and Business Development Consultant to Female Business Owners + Lawyers Q: What is the most valuable quality an attorney needs to get (and keep) clients, besides work quality?
A: Empathy. For those of us that represent primarily individuals in our practice, selecting an attorney can be: ➡️Scary ➡️Overwhelming ➡️Nerve-wracking You have to meet your potential clients where they are at, and typically they are... In my line of work as an employment lawyer, my potential clients typically don't know the law, and many times I'm the first lawyer they've ever had to hire. Some people are born with natural empathy, and some have to work on it. It's something we can all work on to improve our customer service toward potential clients. Even if someone doesn't eventually hire you, they might share your information with someone else that will, or on the flip side, if it's a negative experience and you come across as cold or...

Demand Gen & Sales Enablement Manager at Irwin, a FactSet Company. Love this Katie Lipp! Leading with empathy can have a huge impact on fostering stronger client relationships. 💯 Also really like how you point out that empathy is a skill that can be honed (not something that comes naturally to everyone). What does it mean to "play the long game" in today’s legal market? For Lander & Rogers Chief Executive Partner Daniel Proietto, it means staying true to who we are - an independent Australian law firm focused on people, relationships, and delivering outstanding client service.
In the latest episode of Lawyers Weekly’s Legal Firesides podcast, Dan sat down with Jerome Doraisamy to reflect on his journey from employment lawyer to leading one of Australia’s most respected independent firms, and... "We run our own race at Landers - we focus on what we do well, and that’s serving our clients." Since stepping into the role of CEP earlier this year, Dan has been focused... His approach is grounded in authenticity, transparency, and collaboration. "Leadership, for me, is about being honest, vulnerable and real. It’s about helping people succeed and creating opportunities for them to grow." In the interview, Dan shares insights on: - Why Lander & Rogers remains proudly and fiercely independent, with no plans to merge... - Playing the long game - investing in our people and clients, not chasing short-term wins.
- Vision for growth - deepening our presence in Canberra and Brisbane while continuing to strengthen our national platform across Melbourne and Sydney. - How we’re embracing AI and innovation, focusing on efficiency, adaptability, and creating a culture that’s ready for the future. - The importance of balance - between leadership, client work, and personal wellbeing. "We don’t grow for growth’s sake. We grow to provide opportunities for our people, and to deliver consistency and excellence for our clients." Under Dan’s leadership, the firm has already celebrated major milestones this year, including the opening of our... For Dan, the constant challenge - and reward - is the same: working with great people and building a firm that remains proudly Australian, values-driven, and future-focused.

We represent both employers + employees throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (the "DMV" area). Don't jump to conclusions! 2️⃣ Playing Hardball ➡️ This is a workplace, not an episode of Law & Order. Lose the hardball techniques investigation techniques, like shouting or intimidation. Your employees are adults and must be treated with respect, otherwise you will create issues with morale, retention, and trust. 3️⃣ Allowing the Rumor Mill to Take Control ➡️The facts should drive your decisions - not rumors. Make sure everything is documented and fact-based.
4️⃣ Not Following Your Employment Policies ➡️Your employment policies are there for a reason. Make sure you are following your handbook, investigation policy, or if you run a unionized workplace, your CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement). If the accused hires legal counsel, I can assure you they will be reviewing your policies. 💗Like this post if it was helpful to you, and comment below with questions about workplace investigations.
