commanders 7 round 2024 nfl mock draft final countdown edition

Washington Commanders fans, we’re almost at the 2024 NFL Draft and the start of a new era for football in the DMV. It's been a long time coming, but the time has finally arrived. This has been one of the more anxiety-driven pre-draft cycles for fans. The Commanders have spent the last eight months scouting and evaluating the top quarterbacks in this year’s class. It comes down to North Carolina’s Drake Maye, Michigan's J.J. McCarthy, and LSU’s Jayden Daniels for the No.

2 overall selection. One way or another, general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn will be coming away with their new starting quarterback and potential face of the franchise. However, they also understand that their roster isn’t up to par in some critical areas outside the prized signal-caller position. They have left and right tackle needs, which is never ideal for a rookie quarterback. The Commanders also need to add more talent in their defensive backfield, which could mean starting a couple of rookies this upcoming season. Washington won't move out of their premium selection.

Some pundits have slated this pick to be the true start of the draft with Caleb Williams expected to be selected No. 1 overall. However, the draft truly starts at No. 3 overall, with the New England Patriots being a potential trade-back candidate at the top of the order. Logan Paulsen and JAG Jason make every selection for the Washington Commanders in the 2024 NFL Draft in an EPIC 7 Round Mock Draft. LIVE from Madrid, Spain!

It's that time. Time for our final seven-round mock draft ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, which begins Thursday night in Detroit.

What will the Washington Commanders do with the second overall pick? As it gets closer to Thursday, it's become increasingly likely that LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is the pick. However, nothing has come from Washington that indicates the pick will be Daniels, Drake Maye (North Carolina), or J.J. McCarthy (Michigan). Could Peters pull off a surprise like the 49ers did in 2021 and choose Maye or McCarthy? Maye would not have been a surprise up until the past couple of weeks.

All signs pointed to Jones in 2021, and the 49ers — where Peters was the assistant GM — shocked everyone and chose Trey Lance. Here is our final seven-round mock draft for the Commanders. We've gone with Maye in almost all of our previous mock drafts. In our final seven-round mock draft, we follow the signs and go to Daniels. Daniels makes the Commanders an instant wild-card threat as a rookie. The goal for the rest of this draft will be to add help around him.

Washington has a good start in Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr. The Washington Commanders were one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 season, fueled by Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels. With their franchise quarterback in place — and still on a rookie contract — the future looks bright in Washington, but there’s still plenty of work to be done to strengthen the roster. While upgrading the offensive skill positions will be a priority, the Commanders also need reinforcements along the offensive line and defense. With $68.8 million in effective cap space, they’ll be a team to watch in free agency, but they should also have ample opportunities to add talent through the draft. Barron would be a major addition for the Commanders, bringing versatility and high-level ball production to the secondary.

He was a standout in coverage last season, allowing just a 53.6% completion rate on throws into his coverage. He recorded five interceptions, broke up 10 more passes and didn’t surrender a single touchdown all season. Injuries slowed Williams in the postseason, but he was outstanding throughout the 2024 regular season. In pass protection, he allowed just three sacks and two quarterback hits. Ferguson was a consistent chain-mover for the Ducks in 2024, with 31 of his 46 receptions resulting in first downs. He also proved to be a big-play threat, recording 18 explosive catches of 15 or more yards.

This offseason has been marked by huge changes for the Washington Commanders. Starting at the very top, Dan Quinn is the team's new head coach and he's cleaning house in the roster. The Commanders are a team with many needs starting with a quarterback. Sitting at the No. 2 overall pick, Washington should have their choice of three top signal callers. Here's our latest seven-round update.
