It's that time. Time for our final seven-round mock draft ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, which begins Thursday night in Detroit. What will the Washington Commanders do with the second overall pick? As it gets closer to Thursday, it's become increasingly likely that LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is the pick. However, nothing has come from Washington that indicates the pick will be Daniels, Drake Maye (North Carolina), or J.J. McCarthy (Michigan).

Could Peters pull off a surprise like the 49ers did in 2021 and choose Maye or McCarthy? Maye would not have been a surprise up until the past couple of weeks. All signs pointed to Jones in 2021, and the 49ers — where Peters was the assistant GM — shocked everyone and chose Trey Lance. Here is our final seven-round mock draft for the Commanders. We've gone with Maye in almost all of our previous mock drafts. In our final seven-round mock draft, we follow the signs and go to Daniels.

Daniels makes the Commanders an instant wild-card threat as a rookie. The goal for the rest of this draft will be to add help around him. Washington has a good start in Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson Jr. There are still seven games remaining for the Washington Commanders in 2025. But with the season spiraling into irrelevancy when much more was expected, some sections of the fan base are already looking ahead to what promises to be a pivotal offseason for general manager Adam... The front-office leader has a significant amount of hard work ahead.

Washington has roster holes everywhere you look. Peters' gamble to run it back with most of the squad that achieved so much in 2024 has backfired. A disastrous run of luck on the injury front hasn't helped, but it's clear that this squad, as presently constructed, isn't capable of reaching the heights fans anticipated. Peters could have over $100 million to spend in free agency, and he'd be wise to use every cent before Year 3 of quarterback Jayden Daniels' rookie contract. The Commanders stood pat at the 2025 trade deadline, which was surprising to most, leaving Peters with only six selections in next year's draft to utilize. Not exactly ideal, but the former San Francisco 49ers executive will have to make the best out of a bad situation.

Using the Pro Football Network simulator, we took a look at how the Commanders could approach their selections in our latest seven-round 2026 NFL mock draft. It's no secret that the Washington Commanders need to get more explosive on the defensive edge. Only Dorance Armstrong Jr. is guaranteed to be back next season, but even the ascending defensive end is in the final year of his deal in 2026. After the Washington Commanders address the edge rushing spot, bolstering the secondary could be Adam Peters' next port of call. This was expected to be among the team's biggest strengths this season, but injuries and underperformance have led to these expectations disintegrating.

This is especially evident at the safety spots. Quan Martin's breakout hasn't happened. Will Harris got hurt early. Jeremy Reaves, Percy Butler, and Tyler Owens look more like special teams options right now, so acquiring another athletic option with immediate starting-caliber credentials wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. The Commanders could target Caleb Downs in the first round, but positional value might see Peters wait until a little later in proceedings. In this scenario, taking a chance on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is well worth considering.

McNeil-Warren comes from a smaller program at Toledo, but so did Quinyon Mitchell. He transitioned seamlessly after being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles, and this year's Rockets prospect has the scope, explosiveness, and overall dynamism to do the same. His quickness, physicality, and instincts already look NFL-ready. McNeil-Warren faces a steep step up in class. Still, there is nothing to suggest that he cannot continue his exceptional momentum en route to immediate involvement with the team fortunate enough to secure his services. The Washington Commanders are looking to build on a good foundation year for head coach Dan Quinn and quarterback Jayden Daniels.

They exceeded all expectations, advancing to the NFC Championship game in their first season. The team would now be looking to build on that momentum by surrounding Daniels with more talent. They have already brought in wide receiver Deebo Samuel and will add more pieces in the NFL. The latest 7-round mock draft from PFSN by Ian Cummings projects what the Washington Commanders will do in the upcoming NFL draft. The Washington Commanders’ approach to free agency leaves them with complete flexibility on draft day. They could go with a Round 1 EDGE, or a CB, but can also afford to take a highly graded player at RB if the board falls their way.

Omarion Hampton is very well-regarded in the 2025 NFL Draft. He has similar size and physicality to Brian Robinson Jr., but is superior to Robinson with his speed, second-level creative IQ, and pass-game ability. For Washington, this is pressing the ‘upgrade’ button. In this scenario, the Commanders move down nine spots in exchange for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ 107th pick in round 4 and their 2026 4th-round pick. The Washington Commanders were one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 season, fueled by Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels. With their franchise quarterback in place — and still on a rookie contract — the future looks bright in Washington, but there’s still plenty of work to be done to strengthen the roster.

While upgrading the offensive skill positions will be a priority, the Commanders also need reinforcements along the offensive line and defense. With $68.8 million in effective cap space, they’ll be a team to watch in free agency, but they should also have ample opportunities to add talent through the draft. Barron would be a major addition for the Commanders, bringing versatility and high-level ball production to the secondary. He was a standout in coverage last season, allowing just a 53.6% completion rate on throws into his coverage. He recorded five interceptions, broke up 10 more passes and didn’t surrender a single touchdown all season. Injuries slowed Williams in the postseason, but he was outstanding throughout the 2024 regular season.

In pass protection, he allowed just three sacks and two quarterback hits. Ferguson was a consistent chain-mover for the Ducks in 2024, with 31 of his 46 receptions resulting in first downs. He also proved to be a big-play threat, recording 18 explosive catches of 15 or more yards. The 2025 NFL draft is less than a month away, and the draft boards are starting to shake up with prospects falling down their projections, while others rise above their previous rankings. The Washington Commanders have to nail this draft class to continue to build their young core, while also selecting rookie contributors to get back to the NFC championship game. Here's a look at a full 7-round mock draft for the Commanders with trades!

The Washington Commanders trade back from pick 29 in this mock draft to collect more draft assets after seeing how the board falls. They trade pick 29 in exchange for pick 37, pick 108, and pick 180 from the Las Vegas Raiders. There will be a run on talented running backs in the second round, and the Commanders get it started by selecting the Virginia native TreVeyon Henderson out of Ohio State. Henderson is a complete back who can be a playmaker in the running game with his long speed and agility, as well as the passing game with his receiving abilities and willingness to pass-block. Henderson has all the makings of a franchise running back for the Washington Commanders and a culture setter in the locker room. Oluwafemi Oladejo has been the fastest riser in the NFL draft this offseason, and he looks to be a hot commodity for a lot of teams, with his list of top 30 visits planned...

Oladejo made a name for himself at the Senior Bowl in February when he showcased his skills as a pass-rusher against some of the top draft prospects in the country. The former linebacker made the natural transition to the edge position in his final college season, while sharpening his pass-rushing moves on the defensive line in a short period of time. There's still a lot of raw untapped potential to be unlocked at he next level, but the athletic upside will be well worth the selection at pick 61 if he isn't taken before then. Dan Quinn could possibly have his newer version of Micah Parsons, while Oladejo reunites with his former linebacker coach, Ken Norton Jr. Washington added Deebo Samuel via trade during the NFL combine, but still needs to add younger pieces to develop in the wide receiver room, and do so by selecting Kyle Williams with pick 108. Williams was another name that impressed at the Senior Bowl in front of NFL coaches and scouts against the top defensive backs in the draft.

The former Washington State Cougar finished with a productive final season, bringing in 1,196 receiving yards along with 14 touchdowns through the air. Williams has an elite release package at the line of scrimmage, and proved so with an 89.8 PFF grade against man coverage as a natural separator. Kyle told me he's had great conversations with the Commanders and would be a perfect fit in Kliff Kingsbury's offense with his ability to be a deep threat and in the screen passing game. The Commanders accept another trade offer in the fourth round by sending pick 128 to the Miami Dolphins for pick 135, pick 224, and a 2026 seventh-round pick. Washington adds to the secondary with pick 135 by adding cornerback Quincy Riley from Louisville. According to Tony Pauline, Riley is a name on the Commanders' radar, and they will be bringing him in for a top 30 visit.

Quincy Riley reminds me a lot of current Commander Mike Sainristil with his undersized frame, dog mentality playing style, snap alignment versatility on the outside and in the slot, and his ability to force... Riley also allowed the second-lowest passer rating in single coverage since 2014, with a rating of 29.5 behind only Sauce Gardner. Washington could add a starting-caliber starting corner in the fourth round, and have options of where they could line up the secondary next season. The Washington Commanders are ready to select the best players in the 2025 NFL draft, which means they are not afraid to stay at their pick if the board falls to them. Commanders GM Adam Peters recently said on the "Get Loud" podcast with Fred Smoot that you want to go into a draft able to take the best players, and not forcing yourself to draft... In this seven-round mock draft, I'm forcing myself to take the best players available, and trading back if the board allows.

The draft allowed a top 15 player in the draft to fall to the Commanders at 29, so Washington is turning their card in for Luther Burden III to be the next weapon for... Sometimes drafting the best player available also fills a hole in the roster, and a play-making slot WR like Burden III could elevate the offense to another level with McLaurin and Samuel on the... Burden III has been one of the most overthought players in the draft, and could be the biggest steal if he falls this far. The former Missouri Tiger has the perfect blend of explosiveness and strength to be a threat against NFL defenses in the slot, and out wide when the opportunity presents itself. The Commanders could use his yards after the catch and tackle-breaking ability in the open field from the slot. Burden III forced a nation-leading 30 missed tackles in 2024 despite a down year in production with quarterback play, and defenses focusing on him more.

The 21-year-old prospect would also give fresh legs to a veteran wide receiver room. Regardless of where he's drafted, Luther Burden III is a big-play waiting to happen the second he gets his hand on the ball. There were many good players of the same tier at 61, so the Commanders accepted a trade back with the Raiders for pick 68, pick 143, and a 2026 fifth-round pick. Washington gets a franchise cornerback on an injury discount with Benjamin Morrison out of Notre Dame. Morrison was considered a sure first-round pick and a top corner in the draft before his hip injury in October forced him to miss the remainder of his final season. Benjamin Morrison fits the mold of a corner that Dan Quinn loves with his lengthy frame and ability to play press-man against receivers at the line.
