Would Bills Qb Josh Allen Be In The Hall Of Fame If His Career Ended T
We are in late June in the NFL cycle, that means it’s time for arbitrary debates while we wait to watch our teams at training camp. Is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen a gold jacket Hall of Famer if he never plays another snap of football? Rich Eisen asks the question on the latest episode of the Rich Eisen show. “I think one day, I am going to see him in the Hall of Fame. I think one day he will have a bust in the Hall of Fame,” Eisen begins. “I just think he needs more days as an NFL player for that to happen… Just knowing how the voting process takes place.”
Allen famously got over one of his career humps this February when he brought home is first NFL MVP trophy. Traditionally speaking, an MVP trophy usually stamps your ticket to Canton. Only 13 players in the history of the league have MVP hardware in their trophy case, but no golden jacket. “Winning the NFL MVP award is the league’s highest individual honor, and rack up at least one of these and you might find yourself on a fast track toward eventually making the Pro Football... “Of the 41 MVP winners that are currently retired, 28 are in the Hall of Fame and it will be 29 once Peyton Manning joins them in Canton next year (an astonishing 70.7%).” At just 29-years-old, and after just seven NFL seasons, Allen is already the Buffalo Bills franchise leader in rushing touchdowns.
He also holds franchise records in career rushing yards by a quarterback, and single season passing yards and touchdowns. Josh Allen has undoubtedly made a mark since bursting onto the NFL scene in 2018. The towering 6'5'' quarterback for the Buffalo Bills has not only become a familiar face in the league but a standout performer too. With an MVP award under his belt, multiple playoff appearances—some reaching the high-stakes AFC East Championship games—and record-breaking feats within both the league and his franchise, Allen’s name is often mentioned in the conversation... Yet, there’s a missing piece from Allen’s list of accomplishments: a Super Bowl ring. While his accolades place him among the greats in many eyes, his lack of a Super Bowl win leaves some debating his place among the immortals in Canton.
The question of Allen's Hall of Fame potential ignited a lively discussion on the "Rich Eisen Show." The charismatic sportscaster Rich Eisen delved into the debate during the segment "Who Wants to be a... TJ Jefferson, a cast member and loyal Cowboys fan, faced the challenging task of assessing Allen’s Hall of Fame chances. "This is tough because the stats are incredible for where he’s at in his career," Jefferson noted, while pointing out that other great quarterbacks without gold jackets often endure similar scrutiny. Despite the stats and the skepticism of many, Jefferson’s personal connection with Allen colored his perspective. Reminiscing about a memorable first interview with Allen before his NFL draft, Jefferson didn't hold back: “Because Josh Allen is my man and because of that moment, Josh Allen YES! It looks like Buffalo Bills' quarterback Josh Allen has a Hall of Fame fan.
While reviewing tape from the Bills' Week 2 win over the New York Jets, former Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed shared what he thinks makes the reigning MVP such an "elite" player. The Pro Football Hall of Famer said it's the "seven inches between his ears," referring to Allen's brain. The play that Reed specifically reviewed was Allen's 40-yard scramble in the win over the Jets. That play remains Allen's longest rush of the 2025 season. "Right out of the gate, Josh Allen is pointing and acknowledging who's the Mike," said Reed, referring to one of New York's middle linebackers. "They're telling the [offensive] line who to block, who's the middle of the defense."

After all, the Bills were the ones who knocked them out of the playoffs last season, in dramatic fashion to boot, so the Ravens were looking for revenge on Sunday Night Football. Unfortunately, the Ravens jumped out to a 20-13 lead at halftime and pushed the spread to 15, taking a 34-19 lead into the fourth quarter. If not for future Hall of Fame quarterback Josh Allen, the game would have gotten out of hand much quicker. Allen continued his heroics in the early part of the fourth quarter, running in a touchdown from the two-yard line to make it a nine-point game.
This rushing touchdown actually eclipsed a bit of Bills history for him, further making his case for Canton one day. On Sunday, Allen tallied his 66th career rushing touchdown in the NFL, which means that he is now Buffalo's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns. He surpassed the legendary Thurman Thomas, who previously held the record with 65 touchdowns. This record has stood since Thomas left the Bills in 1999, so Allen is once again in rarified air. It took Thomas 2,849 carries over 12 seasons with the franchise to earn this mark, while Allen did it in just over seven seasons and 766 carries. Josh Allen is officially in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The fourth year pro hasn't been given a bust or yellow jacket, but one of his latest historic achievements is now being exhibited in Canton, OH. Allen recently became the first and only player in NFL history with at least 100 touchdown passes and 20 rushing touchdowns in his first four seasons. He accomplished the milestone during the Bills 33-21 Week 16 victory over the New England Patriots, in which he threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 64 yards rushing. His shoes and jersey that he wore in the game is now on display in the Hall of Fame’s Pro Football Today Gallery. Rich Eisen debates if Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen would be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame if he retired today. Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen will have the opportunity to further etch his name in the NFL history books with a strong performance against the New York Jets on ‘Monday Night Football.’
The upcoming AFC East matchup will mark Allen’s 100th game in the NFL since being selected by the Bills with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. In 99 career games - all but one of which he started - he has completed 2,068-of-3,276 passes for 23,648 yards, 175 touchdowns, and 78 interceptions. If Allen manages to throw three touchdown passes against the Jets, he will tie Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (178 touchdown passes each) for the... Only Patrick Mahomes (225), Dan Marino (217), Aaron Rodgers (203), and Brett Favre (187) have tossed more over that span. Allen can also make history with his legs on Monday.
With seven yards on the ground, he will surpass Cam Newton (3,777 rushing yards) for the fourth-most rushing yards by any quarterback in their first 100 games in the history of the NFL. Fellow 2018 draftee Lamar Jackson leads the list with 5,621 rushing yards, followed by Michael Vick (4,752) and Randall Cunningham (4,096). It remains to be seen if Allen will be hindered at all while playing in his career milestone game. Just one week prior, the signal-caller appeared to suffer a serious head injury against the Houston Texans - but was miraculously able to return to the game shortly after.
