Pro Football Hall Of Famer Shares What Makes Josh Allen Elite
It looks like Buffalo Bills' quarterback Josh Allen has a Hall of Fame fan. While reviewing tape from the Bills' Week 2 win over the New York Jets, former Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed shared what he thinks makes the reigning MVP such an "elite" player. The Pro Football Hall of Famer said it's the "seven inches between his ears," referring to Allen's brain. The play that Reed specifically reviewed was Allen's 40-yard scramble in the win over the Jets. That play remains Allen's longest rush of the 2025 season. "Right out of the gate, Josh Allen is pointing and acknowledging who's the Mike," said Reed, referring to one of New York's middle linebackers.

The chase for the 2024 NFL MVP has been one of the most fascinating storylines to follow this season. Bills QB Josh Allen, Ravens QB Lamar Jackson and Eagles RB Saquon Barkley, among others, are all deserving of this year's award, with each having historic seasons in different fashions. But only one will be crowned as the league's Most Valuable Player. Allen has helped Buffalo exceed preseason expectations, produced in clutch moments and has the stats to back it all up. Let's dive into Allen's MVP case and why former NFL quarterbacks believe Allen is deserving of the award. Going into the 2024 season, the Bills were not looked at as a sure-fire playoff team by the national media.
Many thought that the offseason departures on both sides of the ball, including WR Stefon Diggs, WR Gabe Davis, S Micah Hyde and S Jordan Poyer, among others, would be difficult to overcome. We are in late June in the NFL cycle, that means it’s time for arbitrary debates while we wait to watch our teams at training camp. Is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen a gold jacket Hall of Famer if he never plays another snap of football? Rich Eisen asks the question on the latest episode of the Rich Eisen show. “I think one day, I am going to see him in the Hall of Fame. I think one day he will have a bust in the Hall of Fame,” Eisen begins.
“I just think he needs more days as an NFL player for that to happen… Just knowing how the voting process takes place.” Allen famously got over one of his career humps this February when he brought home is first NFL MVP trophy. Traditionally speaking, an MVP trophy usually stamps your ticket to Canton. Only 13 players in the history of the league have MVP hardware in their trophy case, but no golden jacket. “Winning the NFL MVP award is the league’s highest individual honor, and rack up at least one of these and you might find yourself on a fast track toward eventually making the Pro Football... “Of the 41 MVP winners that are currently retired, 28 are in the Hall of Fame and it will be 29 once Peyton Manning joins them in Canton next year (an astonishing 70.7%).”
At just 29-years-old, and after just seven NFL seasons, Allen is already the Buffalo Bills franchise leader in rushing touchdowns. He also holds franchise records in career rushing yards by a quarterback, and single season passing yards and touchdowns. The Buffalo Bills entered Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season knowing that the Baltimore Ravens would be out for blood. After all, the Bills were the ones who knocked them out of the playoffs last season, in dramatic fashion to boot, so the Ravens were looking for revenge on Sunday Night Football. Unfortunately, the Ravens jumped out to a 20-13 lead at halftime and pushed the spread to 15, taking a 34-19 lead into the fourth quarter. If not for future Hall of Fame quarterback Josh Allen, the game would have gotten out of hand much quicker.
Allen continued his heroics in the early part of the fourth quarter, running in a touchdown from the two-yard line to make it a nine-point game. This rushing touchdown actually eclipsed a bit of Bills history for him, further making his case for Canton one day. On Sunday, Allen tallied his 66th career rushing touchdown in the NFL, which means that he is now Buffalo's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns. He surpassed the legendary Thurman Thomas, who previously held the record with 65 touchdowns. This record has stood since Thomas left the Bills in 1999, so Allen is once again in rarified air. It took Thomas 2,849 carries over 12 seasons with the franchise to earn this mark, while Allen did it in just over seven seasons and 766 carries.
Josh Allen continues his march into the NFL record books, occupying rarified air in the process Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen played an incredibly efficient and dominating game against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. Though he had attempted just two passes at the two-minute warning before halftime, Allen made Arizona pay for their defensive decisions in the second half. In helping the Bills secure a victory at home, Allen recorded his fourth game with two passing touchdowns and two rushing scores, tying former San Fransisco 49ers and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Steve... Going 18-of-23 for 232 yards, Allen helped the Bills climb out of an early 17-3 deficit for a dramatic 34-28 win over the Cardinals. Allen also added nine rushing attempts (one kneel down) for 39 yards on the ground and those two aforementioned touchdowns.
His day could have gone even better, considering Allen also had a rushing touchdown called back on the Bills’ first drive of the game — due to an offensive facemask penalty by right guard... Allen is now just two rushing touchdowns away from tying former Bills running back O.J. Simpson for second all-time in Buffalo Bills history (57). There’s a realistic chance Allen could even climb into first place all-time on the Bills’ list of rushing touchdown leaders. Going full speed ahead, as has been emblematic of his career, Josh Allen reached a milestone marker Thursday. Allen notched his 200th career touchdown pass in the Buffalo Bills' 31-21 win over the Miami Dolphins, tying for the sixth-fastest player in NFL history to do so.
Playing in his 114th career game, Allen's road to 200 touchdown passes came quicker than anyone but arch-frenemy Patrick Mahomes (84 games), Hall of Famer Dan Marino (89), Aaron Rodgers (99), Hall of Famer... He tied current players Kirk Cousins, Dak Prescott and Russell Wilson. Allen, 29, entered Thursday needing three TDs to hit 200 and got them with scoring passes to Dalton Kincaid, Jackson Hawes and Khalil Shakir, who caught TD No. 200 in the fourth quarter. His touchdown pass to Kincaid was his 300th total (passing and rushing) TD, including the playoffs. It's not all that surprising that Allen had a highlight-filled evening against the Dolphins.
He's tallied 45 total TDs, with 40 passing scores, in 15 games against Miami -- both his most against any opponent -- and is 13-2 (8-0 at home). The Pro Football Hall of Fame says that it has received a full Josh Allen uniform in honor of the Buffalo Bills quarterback's 2024 MVP season. Allen edged two-time winner Lamar Jackson for the AP NFL Most Valuable Player award in the closest race since Matt Ryan beat out Tom Brady in 2016. He received 27 first-place votes to Jackson’s 23 and finished with 383 points. "Josh Allen’s 2024 season was nothing short of outstanding," the HOF said on X. "In honor of being named the 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player, the Hall of Fame has received a full uniform from Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Allen led the way for Buffalo all season, showing leadership, toughness and playmaking ability week after week. His performance in 2024 earned him one of the league’s highest honors." During the 2024-25 season, Allen threw for 3,731 yards, 28 TDs and had six picks for a 101.4 passer rating. He ran for 531 yards and 12 scores, becoming the first player in NFL history to have five consecutive seasons with at least 40 total touchdowns. Josh Allen’s 2024 season was nothing short of outstanding. 🙌 In honor of being named the 2024 NFL Most Valuable Player, the Hall of Fame has received a full uniform from @BuffaloBills quarterback @JoshAllenQB.

But for Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, recognition arrived not at the twilight of his career, but amidst a period of unparalleled dominance. Allen’s jersey, a symbol of his historic 2024 MVP season, now resides among the legends in Canton, Ohio, marking a meaningful milestone in his still-evolving career. Josh Allen’s 2024 campaign was nothing short of cinematic. With unwavering resolve, he captained the Buffalo Bills, showcasing leadership that was a clinic in resilience and skill. The team’s unblemished 10-0 home record, punctuated by crucial playoff victories over the Denver Broncos and the...
It wasn’t just his arm strength, but his strategic brilliance that propelled Buffalo to a 13-4 record and secured their fifth consecutive AFC East title. Even with the departure of All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs, Allen’s synergy with his team only intensified, a testament to his adaptability and vision. Think of it like Tom Brady’s Patriots teams consistently winning the AFC East – Allen has established a similar dynasty in Buffalo. The Pro Football Hall of fame’s decision to display Allen’s jersey – a vibrant ensemble of the Bills’ home colors, blue and white – serves as a tangible representation of his remarkable season. More than just fabric, the jersey symbolizes Allen’s journey and the indelible mark he’s left on the game. Alongside the jersey, the Hall also features Retro Diamond turf cleats from Deion Sanders,a nod to a different kind of excellence.
This honor not only celebrates individual achievement but also highlights the collective triumphs of the Buffalo Bills under his guidance. Allen’s 2024 campaign was defined by moments that transcended the ordinary. From a dramatic come-from-behind victory against the Arizona Cardinals to a snow-drenched, spectacular touchdown against the San Francisco 49ers, the highlight reel was consistently impressive. His ability to conquer both top AFC and NFC seeds showcased not only his skill but also his unwavering will in the face of adversity. These moments, woven into the fabric of the season, were instrumental in securing his league MVP award, a recognition that encapsulated his unusual impact on the field.
