Officials are set to address the media after conservative media personality Charlie Kirk was fatally shot during a campus event in Orem, Utah. President Donald Trump confirmed the news of Kirk's death, writing in a Truth Social post that "no one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than... Kirk, 31, was shot in the neck while hosting the first "Prove Me Wrong" table, a series of live debates held at schools and universities across the country, at Utah Valley University. The university said campus is closed and classes are canceled until further notice. The details surrounding the shooting were not immediately available, but authorities have urged students and faculty to leave the area immediately and follow police instruction. Gov. Spencer Cox, R-Utah, called social media a “cancer on our society right now” during a Friday news conference on the suspect in custody for the killing of Charlie Kirk. The Utah governor was referencing the rapid spread of graphic video of Kirk’s fatal shooting, along with the recent release of video a deadly stabbing on a commuter train in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The FBI, which was assisting with the probe, released video footage late Thursday showing a man running across the roof of a building and then jumping off the side.
