Our general merit scholars program is our largest scholarship program for which all admitted students are considered. Blume Public Interest Scholars (formerly Public Interest Law Scholars) The Blume Public Interest Scholars program provides three-year full tuition scholarships and other professional and academic support to selected incoming Georgetown students dedicated to practicing... Grants and Scholarships At Georgetown University Law Center, 60.67% of enrolled students received grants and/or scholarships. The average grant amount is $30,000. 2.38% of students received more than full tuition amount, and 38.32% received more than half, but not the full tuition amount. While it is easier to get a scholarship with a high LSAT score, those with an LSAT score lower than 140 still have a 16% chance of receiving a merit scholarship. A former ambassador and Georgetown University Law Center graduate donated $10 million to the law school to fund scholarships and support students pursuing public service careers, the school announced June 24. The donation is the largest in Law Center history specifically designated for scholarships. Moses said he hopes more Georgetown Law graduates take up jobs in the public sector, which are typically lower-paying than jobs in the private sector. “There is a great need for public service in our country,” Moses said in the university’s press release. “The private sector is very financially attractive to law graduates, but public service is so important for the future of our country. We need brilliant, dedicated, well-educated, well-trained people who will work for the public interest, even if they need to make a financial sacrifice to do it.”

District Court Chief Judge Walter T. McGovern, and served as a legislative aide to U.S. Sen. Warren G. Magnuson (D-WA). He also serves on the boards of the Seattle Art Museum and the University of Washington Foundation.

Ann Blume is a graduate of Cornell University, a former staff assistant to U.S. Sen. Bob Packwood (R-OR) and U.S. Sen. Slade Gorton (R-WA). She serves on Seattle University's board of trustees and College of Arts and Sciences Leadership Council, as well as on the Cornell University College of Human Ecology Advisory Council.

Together, the couple founded the Bruce and Ann Blume Fund, which supports public health, educational, and environmental endeavors. "Ann and Bruce's extraordinary vision and transformational generosity are truly inspiring," said Georgetown Law dean William M. Treanor. "By enabling Georgetown to attract and educate the next generation of public interest leaders, the Blume Institute aligns perfectly with our Jesuit tradition of service." Georgetown Law began modestly in the 19th century when the directors of Georgetown University recommended the establishment of a separate department to train lawyers. It was the first law school created by a Jesuit institution of higher learning in the United States.

In the fall of 1870, with high expectations and a tenuous financial structure, Georgetown’s law school enrolled 25 students from 12 states and Cuba. A scholarship of up to $10,000 is awarded each year to a student enrolled in the JD or LLM program who is a current or former employee of the SEC. A prominent Jewish philanthropist recently donated the largest scholarship gift in the history of the Georgetown University Law Center: $10 million to support the “future of public service.” Alfred Moses, a Washington, D.C., attorney and former ambassador to Romania, said he wants to make it more financially feasible for students to pursue careers in public interest. His $10 million gift will provide such students full-ride scholarships to the Georgetown University Law Center, according to William Treanor, a professor and former dean of the GULC. “From firemen to presidents, [public servants] are the ones we depend upon,” Moses said. “They’re the people who protect us, the people who run the government, provide for the general welfare — nothing is more important. … We all benefit when we have competent public servants.”

Moses’ historic gift will help offset the increasing costs of attending law school, not to mention one of the best law schools in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. Treanor announced the news of the $10 million gift at the tail end of his term as dean.
