Mamdani defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa. He will replace Mayor Eric Adams, who dropped his reelection bid in September but remained on the ballot. Mamdani is a self-described democratic socialist and 34-year-old state assemblymember who will be the city's youngest mayor in over a century. State Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani, who snagged key endorsements from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), leads the count going into the ranked-choice tabulation process, followed by former governor Andrew Cuomo and Comptroller Brad Lander. Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani has a double-digit polling lead over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa as he looks to become the new mayor of America's largest city. Mamdani stunned the political world by winning the Democratic nomination in June, using social media to amplify a very progressive platform. Cuomo, who lost in that Democratic primary, is on the ballot line for the 'Fight and Deliver' party, which he formed back in May. Mayor Eric Adams, who ran as an independent, ended his campaign in late September. However, he remains on the ballot.

Sliwa is again the GOP nominee; he lost to Adams in 2021.
