Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as a third-party candidate, after also defeating Cuomo in a June primary. Republican Curtis Sliwa was also in the race. Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old New York assemblyman and democratic socialist, has won New York’s mayoral race, according to a projection by the Associated Press. He faced Republican Curtis Sliwa and former New York governor Andrew M. Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary against Mamdani and ran as an independent in the general election.
