The Missouri legislature passed a $2.2 million supplemental budget bill funding Gov. Mike Parson’s effort to send National Guard troops and highway patrol officers to the Texas-Mexico border. The Missouri Senate voted 30-2 Wednesday to pass the House bill. Because the Senate did not make any changes, it now goes to Parson for his signature. Presenting the bill on the Senate floor, Sen. Lincoln Hough, R-Springfield, said the funding will go toward expenses associated with sending 250 Missouri National Guard Troops and 22 State Highway Patrol officers to help Texas with border control.

“This is essentially us just paying the bills on an ongoing operation that the governor initiated, you know, at the beginning of March,” Hough said. In February, Parson issued an executive order to send hundreds of state troops to the Texas-Mexico border. The Missouri legislature passed a $2.2 million supplemental budget bill funding Gov. A bill dedicating $2.2 million to support deployment of Missouri National Guard soldiers and State Highway Patrol troopers to Texas for border security on Wednesday became the first bill sent this year to Gov. MIke Parson. In February, Parson announced he would send 200 soldiers and 11 troopers to work with Texas law enforcement at the request of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. He asked for the money to avoid dipping into emergency funds allocated for disasters or other events within the state. The bill, which passed the House almost six weeks ago, encountered little opposition as it passed 30-2, but it did bring a round of questions from state Sen.

Denny Hoskins, a Warrensburg Republican who was stripped of his seat on the Senate Appropriations Committee earlier this year. Hoskins wanted to know the living arrangements for the deployed personnel and what $91,000 set aside for vehicle purchases was buying. Gov. Mike Parson signed legislation providing supplemental funding to the Missouri National Guard and Missouri State Highway Patrol traveling to the country’s southern border near Eagle Pass, Texas where troops have recently been deployed. In late February, Parson authorized sending state National Guard and Missouri Highway Patrol officers to aid in Texas Governor Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star mission, which aims to stop illegal border crossings into the... “President Biden and the federal government have failed.

They're allowing fentanyl and other drugs, criminals, and even suspected terrorists to flood across the border into our country,” Parson said. “States must take a stand, and that's exactly what Missouri is doing. The more crime we can stop at the Southern Border, the less we have to deal with in Missouri,” he said. “We appreciate the strong group of bipartisan lawmakers for approving this funding and understanding the need for Missouri to step in when the federal government has failed our citizens.” The bill totals $2.2 million, spending $2 million to fund the efforts of Missouri National Guard members already deployed to the southern border and $206,000 for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, who are also... JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.

— The Missouri House overwhelmingly supported Gov. Mike Parson’s plan to send soldiers and state troopers to the Mexican border Thursday by voting 122-12 for the money needed to finance it. Parson is sending 200 Missouri National Guard soldiers and 11 Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers to work with Texas law enforcement at the request of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. There are also about 250 National Guard soldiers from Missouri in Texas operating under federal orders and paid from the federal treasury. The 11 patrol troopers will be in Texas for 32 days and the 200 guard soldiers will rotate tours of 50 during the 90-day mission, which could be extended.

The bill provides $2.2 million for the deployment, $2 million to cover costs for the National Guard and $206,757 for patrol operations. Republicans backing the bill said the state must step up because too many people are illegally entering the country. The first bill to pass both chambers in this year’s Missouri Legislative Session is a bill that would fund over $2.2 million this budget year to help with illegal crossings at the southern border. Gov. Mike Parson has ordered about 200 National Guard members and up to 22 Highway Patrol troopers to the U.S.-Mexico border. The extra spending bill is designed to support Operation Lone Star, to curb illegal border crossings and smuggling.
