Josh Allen Becomes Bills All Time Rushing Touchdowns Leader
Josh Allen has reached another milestone in his strong career. Allen has become the Bills all-time franchise leader in rushing touchdowns with his 2-yard score in the fourth quarter. It was Allen’s 66th rushing touchdown, surpassing Thurman Thomas’ 65. Allen’s score capped an eight play, 84-yard drive that took 3:18 off the clock. While the Bills went for two again, they did not get it. Josh Allen holds the Buffalo Bills record for rushing touchdowns.
Quarterback Josh Allen just became the Buffalo Bills franchise leader in rushing touchdowns on Sunday night. You read that right, the Bills franchise ground scoring leader is a quarterback. Buffalo has two running backs in the Hall of Fame and neither have more scores than Allen on the ground. Allen, who has been considered a dual-threat throughout his seven seasons, scored his 66th career rushing touchdown on Sunday night as the Bills trailed the Baltimore Ravens 34 - 19, surpassing Hall of Fame... (O.J. Simpson had 57 for Buffalo.)
The current Bills quarterback reached his 66th career rushing touchdown six seasons earlier than the Hall of Fame running back. Allen scored his latest rushing touchdown at age 29 and at the start of his eighth season in the NFL. Thomas was 32 and in his 12th season. Maybe more telling is the difference in the number of rushing touchdowns per year that Allen scores compared to Thomas. Allen has not had a season with less than six scores on the ground (2021) where Thomas had four seasons with two or less. Allen has had five seasons with eight or more rushing touchdowns, including this season in which he has 12 already and last season in which he scored 15.
Thomas only had three 8+ rushing touchdown seasons with his career best being his third season in the league, 1990, when he ran the ball for eleven scores. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen made NFL history Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. In finding the end zone three times en route to a blowout win, Allen notched his 46th career game with both a passing and rushing touchdown. That surpassed the mark of 45 such games that Cam Newton racked up throughout his career, making Allen the NFL's new leader. Coincidentally, Allen broke the record against Newton's old team. The history-making touchdown came in thrilling fashion, too.
Allen hit Khalil Shakir for an explosive 54-yard scoring pass with 12:18 left in the third quarter, which at the time extended the Bills' lead to 23 points. He notched his first rushing score earlier in the game when he punched the ball in from a yard out late in the second quarter. Josh Allen didn’t just beat the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. He beat one of their legends, too. The Buffalo Bills quarterback passed former Panthers star Cam Newton for the most games in NFL history with both a passing and rushing touchdown, doing it for the 46th time in his career. Allen reached the milestone with a 1-yard rushing score in the second quarter, then added a short pass to Khalil Shakir in the third quarter that turned into a 54-yard touchdown after multiple broken... Allen later ran for another 1-yard touchdown, his second of the day. "It's cool," Allen shrugged regarding breaking Newton's record.
"Just finding a way to win. That's all we're trying to do." The performance also pushed Allen further up the league’s all-time rushing touchdown list. He now ranks 35th in NFL history, and second among active players, behind only Derrick Henry (111), with 70 rushing touchdowns, more than Larry Csonka, Herschel Walker and Eddie George. There's a new all-time rushing touchdowns leader atop the Buffalo Bills' record book, and his name is Josh Allen. Allen called his own number from two yards for a touchdown on the ground, pulling the Bills within 34-25 with 12:51 remaining in the fourth quarter in the Sunday Night Football opener against the...
It was his 66th career rushing touchdown, breaking his tie with Thomas atop the Bills' all-time list. RELATED: Ravens' Derrick Henry runs over Bills for entire first half on Sunday Night Football Thomas, a phenomenal triple threat running back that spent 12 seasons with the Bills, went into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the second ballot in 2007. Thomas is only one of eight men on NFL annals to rush for more than 12,000 yards and amass more than 4,000 receiving yards. On his way up the franchise ladder, Allen passed another Hall of Fame running back. Midway through the 2024 campaign, the quarterback eclipsed the late OJ Simpson (57 rush TDs), who competed nine seasons for the Bills.
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen already has several Buffalo Bills and NFL records. With his latest touchdown, he now has another. Allen ran for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Buffalo's Week 1 contest against the Baltimore Ravens. In doing so, he became the Bills' all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with 66, passing Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas. While Allen's feat is historic, it's coming in a game in which his defense is getting eaten alive by the Ravens, as they trail 40-25 at the time of writing. The defense is in severe need of an acquisition of a superstar.

Josh Allen just became the Bills All-Time Rushing TD leader…He is only 29. He is a QB. O.J. & Thurman both played more games for this franchise. In a game that featured plenty of incredible rushing plays, Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen made his mark on the ground by accomplishing a historic feat. Allen entered Week 1's game against the Baltimore Ravens at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. With the Bills trailing Derrick Henry and company, Allen trimmed Baltimore's lead in the fourth quarter from 15 to nine with a two-yard rushing score with a little under 12 minutes left in regulation. That touchdown gave the former Wyoming Cowboys star the solo spot atop the Bills' all-time list for most career rushing scores. He surpassed Buffalo legend running back Thurman Thomas for the record. “With that, @JoshAllenQB makes HISTORY,” the Bills shared in a post on X, formerly Twitter, to announce their quarterback's incredible feat.
The 6-foot-5 Allen added another rushing touchdown to his name with a leaping TD late in the fourth quarter that helped Buffalo complete a stunning come-from-behind 41-40 victory over the Ravens. Allen finished with 394 passing yard and two touchdowns to go with 30 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 14 carres. The Buffalo Bills entered Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season knowing that the Baltimore Ravens would be out for blood. After all, the Bills were the ones who knocked them out of the playoffs last season, in dramatic fashion to boot, so the Ravens were looking for revenge on Sunday Night Football. Unfortunately, the Ravens jumped out to a 20-13 lead at halftime and pushed the spread to 15, taking a 34-19 lead into the fourth quarter. If not for future Hall of Fame quarterback Josh Allen, the game would have gotten out of hand much quicker.
Allen continued his heroics in the early part of the fourth quarter, running in a touchdown from the two-yard line to make it a nine-point game. This rushing touchdown actually eclipsed a bit of Bills history for him, further making his case for Canton one day. On Sunday, Allen tallied his 66th career rushing touchdown in the NFL, which means that he is now Buffalo's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns. He surpassed the legendary Thurman Thomas, who previously held the record with 65 touchdowns. This record has stood since Thomas left the Bills in 1999, so Allen is once again in rarified air. It took Thomas 2,849 carries over 12 seasons with the franchise to earn this mark, while Allen did it in just over seven seasons and 766 carries.
