Commanders Star Jayden Daniels Suffers Painful Injury In Seahawks Loss
Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow in the fourth quarter of Sunday night's 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Daniels will have an MRI on Monday to determine how long he's out, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported, per sources informed of the plan. The belief, per Rapoport, is that the injury (to his non-throwing arm) might not be as bad as it could have been, but the signal-caller is expected to miss several games. Commanders coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Monday that Daniels dislocated his elbow but did not provide a timetable for the QB's return. The second-year quarterback suffered the injury when he was sacked by Seahawks defender Drake Thomas and was awkwardly slung to the ground. The serious nature of the injury was immediately evident, and Daniels' arm was quickly put into an air cast.
The Commanders (3-6) trailed the Seahawks, 38-7, with less than 8 minutes remaining when Daniels exited. Quinn said after the game there wasn't a conversation about pulling Daniels from the blowout loss, but he understands that it would have made sense in "hindsight." Jayden Daniels Suffers Dislocated Elbow in Commanders' Loss to Seahawks, MRI to Determine Severity The Washington Commanders may be facing another major hurdle in a season already full of them. Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, suffered a dislocated elbow on his non-throwing arm during Sunday’s 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter when Daniels scrambled toward the sideline and was brought down by Seahawks linebacker Drake Thomas.
As Daniels fell, he instinctively tried to brace himself with his left arm - and that’s when things took a turn. The visual was tough to watch. Daniels’ elbow bent awkwardly inward as he hit the turf, drawing immediate attention from Washington’s medical staff. He was helped off the field and did not return. Now, the next step is an MRI to determine the full extent of the damage. — Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated left elbow with just under eight minutes left in the fourth quarter of his team’s blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night, a... X-rays did not reveal a fracture, another league source said, but Daniels will undergo further testing on Monday to determine the full extent of the injury and his expected recovery time. Daniels’ left (non-throwing) arm bent backward severely at the elbow as he landed with his full body weight while being sacked near Seattle’s goal line. He writhed in pain as the Commanders’ medical staff rushed to his side and teammates dropped to one knee. Daniels’ left arm was put in a large air cast as the entire Washington bench came to his side and a cart pulled up to take him to the locker room. “Gut-wrenching,” right guard Sam Cosmi said of the moment.
“You could just hear the air being taken out of everybody in the stadium.” Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a brutal arm injury during the fourth quarter of the team’s game against the Seahawks on Sunday night. Daniels, with the game already well out of hand, scrabbled to his right and was sacked at the Seahawks’ 4-yard line on the play by Seattle linebacker Drake Thomas. As Daniels tried to brace himself with his left – and non-throwing – arm, his elbow snapped in the wrong direction and was potentially dislocated. Commanders coach Dan Quinn called it a “left elbow injury” and did not have more details at the time. Daniels’ teammates immediately kneeled down around him in a somber scene at Northwest Stadium.
“It’s really tough to see him go down. You just want him to stay positive,” Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner said. “You don’t know what the result is. You just speak a lot of positivity into existence. He’s a very positive person so we’re just praying for the best.” As if the Washington Commanders didn't have enough issues already in the midst of a very disappointing season, the team is now operating without the services of quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Daniels has been sidelined since he suffered an ugly elbow injury in the Week 9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The second-year quarterback was diagnosed with a dislocated elbow, which many initially believed might end his season. However, a recent update on Daniels says otherwise, opening the door for him to play again in 2025. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, tests revealed Daniels' injury isn't as bad as first believed, as the young quarterback avoided ligament damage and he doesn't need surgery. Rapoport adds that, right now, the team is not putting Daniels on injured reserve. What was meant to be a night of nostalgia and renewed hope for the Washington Commanders turned into heartbreak.
The team’s return to Northwest Stadium, donning their iconic Super Bowl-era uniforms, was supposed to serve as motivation to turn their 3-5 season around. But instead, the evening ended in despair as quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a gruesome left arm injury in the fourth quarter of a 38-14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. After missing the previous week’s 28-7 defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs, Daniels returned to the starting lineup for this primetime clash, seen as a much-needed boost for a team desperate to stay in... However, his comeback was overshadowed by tragedy late in the game. Daniels was scrambling toward the end zone on second-and-goal with the Commanders trailing by 31 points when he was tackled awkwardly. His left arm bent backward in an unnatural position, leaving fans and teammates stunned.
