Defensive linemen are going to be en vogue in this draft, with interior players and edge rushers set to dominate the top 100 selections in the draft. If you're looking for a quarterback, the lack of top-end talent makes way for some intriguing Day 2 and 3 prospects, including Louisville's Tyler Shough, Syracuse's Kyle McCord and Ohio State's Will Howard. Abdul Carter is the top-ranked prospect on PFN’s board, and a blue-chip EDGE talent in the 2025 NFL Draft. It’s an impressive feat, considering that 2024 was his first season playing EDGE full-time.

As one might expect, being a young EDGE at just 6’3″, 250 pounds, Carter still has room to improve his run defense, and he’s never going to be immovable against combos and duo blocks. But as a pass-rusher and pursuit threat, Carter has a kind of instant explosiveness and closing speed that’s near-impossible to replicate, and he builds upon that generational burst with speed-to-power, wicked bend capacity, and... Additionally, his off-ball background gives him the versatility to rush gaps, disguise blitzes, and drop in coverage. At his peak, he can be an absolute game-wrecker. Cam Ward is the QB1 of the 2025 NFL Draft. He’s been productive for a long time, but he realized his full potential in his lone year at Miami.

Blue-chip QB prospects usually have the raw talent to set themselves apart. That’s where Ward earns his stripes. He’s a deadly creative presence under center, with truly uncommon arm elasticity, weaponized by his change-of-direction, improvisational feel, and budding football IQ. With his ball handling and smooth distribution style, he can command the quick game, and with his playmaking propensity, he can make big-time throws in adverse situations. It’s tough to pin down a pro comparison for Ward, but if he can continue to hone his gunslinger predisposition for maximum efficiency and lower volatility, he could grow to be mentioned in the... The 2025 NFL Draft class is rounding into shape, and we’re getting a clearer picture of some of the top prospects and the position groups with the most depth.

The top prospect on the board is Colorado’s Travis Hunter, a rare talent with the potential to start at the NFL level as either a wide receiver or cornerback. After Hunter, Penn State stud Abdul Carter, Michigan standout Mason Graham, Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan and Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty are some of the premier players in this draft class. The running back, tight end and offensive tackle positions seem to be the deepest and strongest on the offensive side of the ball. On defense, the edge defender group is as deep as we’ve seen in several years, dominating the projected top 50. There are also more impact defensive backs this year than a year ago, with plenty of options on all three days of the draft, specifically on Days 2 and 3. As a cornerback, he brings good mirror-matching movements and truly elite ball skills. He can be a bit out of control and lacks some density, which gets exposed the most in press-man coverage. As a primary zone defender with press-man flexibility, he can be an immediate starting cornerback with an All-Pro ceiling. Without a plethora of clear-cut superstar prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, you are in for a treat this draft season.

Why's that? Because there's bound to be drastically differing opinions of most of the early-round talents, and that diversity always makes this process more fun than if everyone agrees on, say, the Top 20 prospects. I cannot say I've watched every draft-eligible prospect. Far from. But at this reasonably early stage of the 2025 pre-draft process, here's my Top 50 prospects after the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. Pearce could add some weight to his lanky-ish frame.

But even despite being somewhat tall and skinny in the SEC, he pieced together back-to-back seasons with elite-level productivity that came from supreme burst, bend, and speed-to-power conversion. He has an ascending collection of pass-rush moves too. Pearce can win in a hurry and in a variety of ways ... and I think his best football is in front of him. Hunter combines magnificent physical traits with the polish needed to be the second-highest-graded player on my board at cornerback and receiver. I graded him individually at both positions, and that's where he landed.

He can be silky smooth, ultra-explosive, and his ridiculously ball-tracking talent is an asset on offense and defense. Graham is a ready-to-go interior rusher with tenacity, athleticism, powerful hands, and a nonstop motor that revs against the run too. High floor, high ceiling.
