Prosecutors have filed a notice to seek the death penalty for Robinson. Tyler Robinson, who is accused of assassinating conservative influencer Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, has been formally charged with a slew of offenses, including aggravated murder, with prosecutors announcing the intent to seek the death penalty. Robinson, 22, has also been charged with felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering and commission of a violent offense in the presence of... The brazen murder – the latest in a string of attempted and successful assassinations of political leaders in recent years – has led to anguished recriminations across America’s political spectrum. The man accused of fatally shooting right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was charged with aggravated murder on Tuesday, with prosecutors saying they will seek the death penalty. Tyler Robinson, 22, was taken into custody on 12 September in his native Utah following a 33-hour manhunt involving local law enforcement and the FBI. Robinson is being held without bail in a special housing unit at the Utah County Jail. In addition to aggravated murder, Robinson faces multiple other charges, including felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering and committing violent crime in the presence of children. Kirk, 31, died of a single gunshot wound while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem on 10 September.

ALLYN: Well, Utah County prosecutors said they intend to file aggravated murder charges against him on Tuesday, when he is also set to make his first court appearance. The charges carry the possible punishment of the death penalty if convicted. And most of what we know about the case so far is outlined in an affidavit that was filed after Robinson's arrest. And it says Robinson discussed with his family that Charlie Kirk was coming to Utah Valley University and that he really disliked Kirk, telling them that Kirk was, quote, "full of hate and spreading... RASCOE: Now, this shooting happened at a public amphitheater with thousands in attendance. What security breakdowns may have allowed this to happen?
