What Will The New York Giants Jaxson Dart Big Blue View
Using power rankings and a mock draft to look at the New York Giants needs It’s occasionally strange how things work out. Thanks to some unforeseen personal circumstances, I was forced to push November’s Power Mock to this week. That, in turn, gave the New York Giants time to lose to the Chicago Bears and fire head coach Brian Daboll. And while rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is in the concussion protocol, his play against the Bears was simply stellar. I’ve been high on Dart since before he became a Giant.
But even so, he’s exceeded my wildest expectations, not only in his play but how quickly he’s playing at this level. It isn’t perfect by any means, and there’s still a lot that Dart can improve upon, but I’m comfortable calling him the Giants’ Franchise Quarterback. And with a Franchise QB in place, I believe the Giants’ “rebuilding” period is over, and it’s time to build a consistent winner. That’s what this, and future Power Mocks, will be about. Instead of waiting until the last possible minute to see if Jaxson Dart advances through the NFL mandated concussion protocol, the Giants ruled out their rookie quarterback at the start of the practice week. Is that a sign that his concussion is more significant than others and he could miss multiple games? “I wouldn’t want to speak on what the severity of it is,” said interim head coach Mike Kafka, who was offensive coordinator under the since-fired Brian Daboll when Dart was injured last Sunday against... “He’s been around the building and around the guys, so it’s been cool to see him. Whatever the docs and our medical staff [say], whatever’s the best for him is what we’ll do.” After his head hit the ground and his body went limp on a fumble, Dart stayed on the bench talking to quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney while the Bears drove for a field goal. New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll has consistently insisted there’s no quarterback controversy in New York and that Russell Wilson will be the starter.
But the buzz around rookie Jaxson Dart has started after the team’s first-round pick put forth a strong preseason campaign that was arguably the best of all the quarterbacks from his draft class, creating... Gilberto Manzano of SI.com believes that the Giants could have Dart on the field as soon as Halloween, noting that Dart has “looked the part” of a future franchise quarterback. “With all of the potential Dart has flashed, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that he’ll get a full redshirt season,” Manzano said. “Daboll is protecting Dart by not rushing him onto the field, but he also doesn’t have much time to waste after back-to-back losing seasons. He also can’t afford to go through the growing pains of a rookie quarterback with such a grueling schedule in the first month of the season.” Jaxson Dart was not supposed to be on the field this early.
The plan was patience, a year of watching and learning. Most believed throwing him into action too soon would hurt his growth and sink the Giants’ offense. But Coach Brian Daboll had other ideas. He trusted his rookie quarterback enough to start him against the undefeated Chargers. With the Giants desperate for a spark, Dart was given the chance to lead. And he delivered.
The Giants offense had looked flat in two of their three losses. Against Los Angeles, Dart gave it a pulse. He brought energy, toughness, and playmaking ability that made the team believe. Yes, the defense deserves credit. The pass rush came alive with 20 pressures. Abdul Carter racked up five quarterback hits, and Brian Burns’ late sack closed the door.
Still, it was Dart who changed the tone. He gave the Giants something they had not felt in weeks: life. Dart took heavy punishment from a physical Chargers defense. He even tweaked his hamstring, but he never wavered. Each time he was hit, he got back up and kept fighting. What can we expect from Jaxson Dart against the Chargers’ defense?
The New York Giants have thrown us all a curveball and named rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart their starting quarterback for the forseeable future. That means it will be Dart, not Russell Wilson, leading the Giants out of the tunnel when they face the 3-0 Los Angeles Chargers. And in the span of a day the Giants have gone from having one of the oldest starting quarterbacks in the NFL to the youngest. Going from an experienced veteran to an athletic rookie is bound to have an impact on the Giants’ offense. But just how much of an impact will the change from Wilson to Dart have on the product on the field? It also happens that the Giants are playing one of the best defenses in the NFL when they take the field against the Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
This is the question heading into the Giants’ game against the Chargers. The New York Giants are about to travel back in time to the pre-Jaxson Dart days in Week 11, thanks to a concussion that will sideline the rookie. Big Blue has grown accustomed to competent quarterback play since Dart took over in Week 4, something they haven't seen much of in the post-Eli Manning era. Now it's a return to the days of old, living life without their emerging star. Change has been a theme for the Giants since their Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears. It was the loss that ultimately led to the firing of head coach Brian Daboll.
It was the loss that knocked Dart out with a concussion. It was the loss that saw interim head coach Mike Kafka elevate Jameis Winston to QB2 after Russell Wilson proved to be ineffective. The Giants, their fans and Dart are familiarizing themselves with the league's concussion protocol, hoping a return is coming sooner rather than later. Dart could return as early as Week 12 if he clears concussion protocol. The best way the New York Giants can make sure that their first-round investment in QB Jaxson Dart pays off is to make sure he's protected by a competent offensive line. Andrew Thomas will get the job done at left tackle, and the interior offensive line positions at least have some upside with John Michael Schmitz Jr.
at center and Jon Runyan at guard. Even Evan Neal, the former tackle-turned-guard, is an intriguing watch in 2025. READ: Jaxson Dart already showing signs he could challenge Giants’ QB plan But the biggest issue facing this team is at right tackle, where veteran Jermaine Eluemunor will resume his starting role and attempt to provide some stability on the edge. Still, he isn't a long-term answer, which is why ESPN's Matt Miller has the Giants spending a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on a new offensive tackle in his latest 2026 mock... "Mauigoa enters his third college season as a player on the rise.
After allowing five sacks during his true freshman season in 2023, the 6-foot-6, 315-pound right tackle didn't allow a sack last season and drew only three penalties," Miller wrote. "Mauigoa is best as a run blocker in a zone scheme, with quick feet and the agility to get to the second level. He'd serve as a replacement for disappointing 2022 first-rounder Evan Neal and join a youthful offense which also features 2025 first-round quarterback Jaxson Dart, star second-year receiver Malik Nabers and emerging running back Tyrone... by Eric Kennedy | May 31, 2025 | News and Notes JAXSON DART SIGNS… The New York Giants have signed quarterback Jaxson Dart (1st round) to a 4-year, fully-guaranteed, $17 million contract. The only remaining unsigned players from the team’s 2025 NFL Draft class are defensive tackle Darius Alexander and running back Cam Skattebo.

CHICAGO — If the scene that unfolded with Jaxson Dart on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field felt all too familiar, that’s because it was. The New York Giants’ rookie quarterback entered the NFL’s concussion protocol for the fourth time in four months, spanning his preseason debut and seven regular-season starts. Before Sunday, he had cleared that protocol three times, but amid the Giants’ crushing 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears, he was unable to do so again. Dart entered the blue medical tent between the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth, with the Giants driving to extend their 17-10 lead. Dart had played the final snaps of the third quarter, so when backup Russell Wilson entered the game to start the fourth, it took many by surprise, including some of his Giants’ teammates. When Dart finally exited the medical tent after being evaluated, he didn’t rush out to find his helmet and seamlessly hop back into the huddle, as he had twice before this season.
Instead, Dart slowly walked down the Giants’ sideline and into the locker room as the game carried on without him.
