The media were back at New York Giants OTAs on June 5, and Big Blue elected to move rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart up the pecking order to second-team QB for the session, according to... Per Hughes, this was a significant shift from last week, when Dart spent the majority of his reps with and against the respective third-team units for offense and defense. The results, however, were not great. “Jaxson Dart had a rough afternoon,” ESPN NYG beat reporter Jordan Raanan relayed after practice. Noting that the rookie “threw a couple INTs [and] had a couple passes batted down.”
Similarly, NorthJersey.com beat writer Art Stapleton acknowledged that it was an “up-and-down practice for the Giants QBs” in general. Stapleton was also a little more forgiving when it came to Dart. “Tre Hawkins made a nice interception of Jaxson Dart along the sideline, but I put a star on the play because Dart gave rookie WR Da’Quan Felton a chance to make a play,” the... “Hawkins was the one who did, outmaneuvering Felton.” Rookie quarterback throws a pair of interceptions EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.
— Not every day is going to be perfect in the life of an NFL quarterback, especially a rookie quarterback just learning the ropes. New York Giants’ rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart had one of those less-than-perfect days during Thursday’s OTA. Unofficially, Dart went 6 of 12 with a pair of interceptions during Thursday’s practice. Dart also had a couple of passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. He took one rep with the first team during practice. One of Dart’s interceptions was an underthrown deep sideline route intended for Da’Quan Felton that was grabbed by cornerback Tre Hawkins.
The second interception, by undrafted rookie free agent Makari Paige, came when Dart was flushed out of the pocket and moving to his left. Here are the other quarterback stats for the day: The New York Giants wrapped up their first week of organized team activities (OTAs) on Friday, holding their third of 10 such practices at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center before minicamp in mid-June. Here are the highlights from the OTA No. 3: View photos from practice as the Giants wrap up their first week of OTAs at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.
QB Russell Wilson (3),C John Michael Schmitz Jr. (61) QB Russell Wilson (3),WR Zach Pascal (83) East Rutherford, NJ - New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is expected to experience his share of ups and downs as he adjusts to his new life in the NFL. The idea, though, is for him to have fewer downs and a lot more ups. On Thursday, the team’s sixth OTA, Dart, had more valleys.
I had him down (unofficially for nine pass attempts in 11-on-11, of which he completed five. Two of his throws were interceptions (one by promising young safety Makari Paige and the other by cornerback Tre Hawkins III), and he was also ”sacked” once by Brian Burns. Mike Kafka on what stands out about Jaxson Dart🎥: https://t.co/gukOgOyOrU pic.twitter.com/y04ODEcQis One thing that has seemingly emerged with Dart is that his worst throws have come when he’s been on the move and hasn't set his feet. Both of his interceptions came when he was scrambling to the left and twerking his body in such a way as to ensure that he had enough room to wind up and throw the... The Giants’ first-round quarterback put pen to paper on Friday, signing his four-year, $16.9 million rookie contract that includes an $8.9 million signing bonus, the team announced.
Dart is now the fifth member of the Giants’ seven-player draft class to sign, joining first round outside linebacker Abdul Carter, fifth-round offensive lineman Marcus Mbow, seventh round tight end Thomas Fidone II and... Third round defensive lineman Darius Alexander and fourth-round running back Cam Scattebo remain unsigned. Scattebo practiced during the first half of Wednesday’s first open OTA practice before stepping off to get stretched out by a trainer. Alexander did not practice for unknown reasons and showed up on the sideline late. Dart, 22, has been working at the Giants’ facility since the team traded up to draft him No. 25 overall in late April.
He is practicing during OTAs as the Giants’ No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart behind starter Russell Wilson and backup Jameis Winston. Giants QB Jaxson Dart exited Sunday's loss against the Bears because of a concussion. Patrick McDermott / Getty Images CHICAGO — If the scene that unfolded with Jaxson Dart on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field felt all too familiar, that’s because it was. The New York Giants’ rookie quarterback entered the NFL’s concussion protocol for the fourth time in four months, spanning his preseason debut and seven regular-season starts.
Before Sunday, he had cleared that protocol three times, but amid the Giants’ crushing 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears, he was unable to do so again. Dart entered the blue medical tent between the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth, with the Giants driving to extend their 17-10 lead. Dart had played the final snaps of the third quarter, so when backup Russell Wilson entered the game to start the fourth, it took many by surprise, including some of his Giants’ teammates. When Dart finally exited the medical tent after being evaluated, he didn’t rush out to find his helmet and seamlessly hop back into the huddle, as he had twice before this season. Instead, Dart slowly walked down the Giants’ sideline and into the locker room as the game carried on without him. The New York Giants are about to travel back in time to the pre-Jaxson Dart days in Week 11, thanks to a concussion that will sideline the rookie.
Big Blue has grown accustomed to competent quarterback play since Dart took over in Week 4, something they haven't seen much of in the post-Eli Manning era. Now it's a return to the days of old, living life without their emerging star. Change has been a theme for the Giants since their Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears. It was the loss that ultimately led to the firing of head coach Brian Daboll. It was the loss that knocked Dart out with a concussion. It was the loss that saw interim head coach Mike Kafka elevate Jameis Winston to QB2 after Russell Wilson proved to be ineffective.
The Giants, their fans and Dart are familiarizing themselves with the league's concussion protocol, hoping a return is coming sooner rather than later. Dart could return as early as Week 12 if he clears concussion protocol. New York Giants' first-round pick and quarterback of the future, Jaxson Dart, is expected to wait a while before he becomes QB1 for Big Blue. With veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston having firm grips on the QB1 and QB2 roles for New York, Dart would need an incredible training camp and preseason performance to push for either gig... He may be on his way to doing just that. NorthJersey.com's Art Stapleton is at Giants OTAs this week and shared a highlight of Dart already connecting on a touchdown pass.
This time, it's to WR Juice Wells. Jaxson Dart to Juice Wells for the TD at #NYGiants OTA @OleMissFB @JaxsonDart @juicew3lls pic.twitter.com/0OtVyuWYV7 While it may seem like an insignificant short touchdown toss, it isn't. Short completions often turn into first downs and touchdowns, and it's up to the quarterback to make the right read and put the ball in the right location to convert them. Dart did that on this rep, and the coaches will take notice. BigBlueInteractiveSM provides news, analysis, and discussion on the New York Football Giants.
