Terminate A W2 Employee Embedded Payroll
Terminations are created when an employee is scheduled to leave the company. Gusto provides the capability to support terminated employees and offers different options for employers to run their last paychecks using the Gusto Termination Flow or the API. Make sure employees are paid on time by looking at the state’s requirement guide. Some states require employees to receive their final wages within 24 hours (unless they consent otherwise) in which case running a one-off payroll may be the only option. Hire date is required in order to terminate an employee. If an employee does not yet have a hire date, use the Delete an onboarding employee API.
To get started, generate an employee termination flow via API call to our Flows endpoint. The last day of employment is the employee’s effective dismissal date. The date can be in the past or the future and a scheduled effective date takes effect at 12am PT. After terminating an employee, you can visit their profile to find all of their termination information. If you expand the termination info card, you’ll see a "Final Paycheck Calculator" button at the bottom. Click to open the calculator. There isn't presently a way to deactivate someone from just payroll, but keep them active on the team. Their activity could cease on payroll, as they stop being paid through Square Payroll. If you do wish to move forward with deactivating the team member, you can do so through the following steps: 1. Sign in to your Square Dashboard.2. Navigate to Staff & Payroll > Team > Team Members.3.
Select the team member you want to deactivate from payroll.4. Tap the ellipsis in the upper right-hand corner of the team member blade5.
