The business and public interest worlds alike demand advocates who can address new legal, ethical and societal challenges as they arise alongside rapid advances in technology. Technology plays an ever-growing role in our economy, society and political discourse. Rapid innovations in data gathering and analysis, machine learning and digital technology are transforming our social interactions, economic markets, civic institutions – almost every part of our lives. The laws and policy frameworks related to technology are therefore increasingly relevant, and not just to lawyers. Journalists, product developers, entrepreneurs, policy advisors, civil society advocates and others seek specialized, current, sophisticated knowledge of how the law and technology relate to each other. Georgetown Law developed two new academic programs, a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Technology Law & Policy and a first-of-its kind, Master of Law and Technology (M.L.T.) for non-lawyers to meet these demands.

The Technology Law and Policy Scholars Program welcomes a select group of incoming 1L’s to concentrate in tech law and policy. Recent cohorts have included students with advanced degrees in engineering and computer science; students with start-up and executive branch experience; and others focused on the intersection of technology and social justice. Georgetown Law will offer a 30% reduction in tuition for Masters of Laws (LL.M.) degrees for U.S.-educated attorneys whose U.S. government jobs were affected by recent federal workforce reductions and reorganizations. The Law Center first made tuition discounts available last spring to applicants for LL.M. degree programs in the 2025-6 academic year; the new discount is available for applicants to programs starting in the fall of 2026.

“Georgetown Law has from its founding welcomed public servants as students, and we are glad to be able to help former federal workers who have experienced career disruptions gain skills for their next stage,”... Teitelbaum. Some 25 former federal attorneys are benefiting from a tuition discount in the current academic year. We spoke with one of them, Lindsy Miles-Hare, L’26, a former Department of Education employee who is now earning an LL.M. in Taxation, about her experience. student Q: What was the job you held in the federal government? Develop a speciality or explore broadly. Each area of specialization for our LL.M. degrees grows out of a center of excellence at Georgetown. Most focus on areas of law in which Georgetown is ranked in the top ten law schools in the nation.

Georgetown Law’s LL.M. programs are open to both foreign and U.S.-educated lawyers. U.S.-educated candidates must have received a J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. Students educated outside the United States must have already completed the university portion of their legal education and received the degree required for admission to the practice of law in their country. Admission to the bar is not required.

Foreign-educated students who wish to craft their own course of study, sampling from various areas, can choose the General Studies or International Legal Studies LL.M. programs, both of which offer great flexibility. For students wishing to specialize, there are several programs available (see full listing at right). For those who want to invest in an even more cosmopolitan education, Georgetown offers exciting joint & dual degree options. And, for all foreign-educated students, Georgetown offers the highly popular LL.M. Summer Experience, a summer program that enables a student to earn up to four academic credits that count toward the New York Bar.

Treanor announced on April 22 that the Law Center would offer tuition discounts on select LL.M. degrees and continuing education programs to current or recently separated government lawyers. In a message to the Georgetown Law community, Treanor wrote, “The recent federal actions affecting government employees have created uncertainty and disruption for many individuals in our region and across the government.

In March, Interim President Groves shared a message with the Georgetown community highlighting resources for recently separated federal workers, which includes career counseling seminars, scholarships, and professional development opportunities. “As part of this larger institutional effort, and to help affected federal lawyers, I am pleased to announce that Georgetown Law will also offer support to government lawyers affected by recent federal job reductions.” A substantially reduced LL.M. tuition rate of 50% to lawyers who have a J.D. from a U.S.-accredited law school who have recently left government service. The reduced tuition rate applies to the following LL.M.
