LaNorris Sellers is a quarterback from South Carolina who is ranked No. 27 on my NFL Draft Top 100 Big Board. This comprehensive scouting report analyzes Sellers’s draft potential, current mock draft trends, and where he ranks among the top prospects. LaNorris Sellers was a projected sleeper for the first overall pick entering the 2025 campaign, and it’s no secret why. At 6’3″, 242 pounds, with hyper-elite athleticism, evasive and creative flair, and wicked arm strength and velocity generation, his raw tools are second to none.

But while fellow SEC signal caller Ty Simpson is climbing up the board, Sellers is falling, and could ultimately be best served to return to school, and perhaps test the transfer portal. Sellers hasn’t necessarily been bad in 2025. His 79.5 PFSN CFB QBi figure is comfortably above-average, and around middle-of-the-pack for notable 2026 NFL Draft prospects. But he also hasn’t been consistently good, and that’s the issue for the aspiring early-round pick. Outside of a strong all-around performance against Missouri where he willed his team to compete, Sellers has only eclipsed 200 yards passing once, and three times, he’s been held out of the end zone... There are excuses to catalogue for Sellers, of course.

His supporting cast is one of the worst in the SEC. The Gamecocks’ Team OL+ rating is 116th in the nation — the only such SEC unit outside of the Top 100 — and his weapons core is paltry at best. Outside of former five-star recruit Nyckoles Harbor — who himself is a one-dimensional vertical threat — the Gamecocks’ receiving corps has very little to offer. As a three-star recruit, South Carolina didn't offer a scholarship to quarterback LaNorris Sellers until the middle of his senior year, and he redshirted behind Spencer Rattler in his first season with the Gamecocks. Sellers' career as a starter got off to a rocky start in 2024 -- he had to lead a fourth quarter comeback just to get past Old Dominion in the opener. There were more bumps in the road after that game, including a 27-3 drubbing at home against Ole Miss, but something clicked for Sellers around midseason. He led his team to six consecutive victories to close out the regular season, putting an exclamation point on his first year as the starter with a 17-14 win at Clemson, when he ran... He showed off his arm talent down the stretch as well, throwing for 300-plus yards twice. He's gone from relative unknown to one of the most thrilling talents in the college game in the past year.

Will he build off last season's strong finish to position himself as one of the top quarterbacks available in the 2026 NFL Draft? After breaking down Sellers' game tape from 2024, here is my initial scouting report. Height, weight: 6-foot-3, 240 pounds (school measurements). With his signature glasses and a big smile, LaNorris Sellers took college football by storm last year as a redshirt freshman. Staying in his home state of South Carolina, Sellers was a three-star high school recruit and won the quarterback battle during spring practices. At 6-3, 240 pounds, Sellers is as athletic as they come, with the frame NFL evaluators are looking for. As a passer, his biggest strength is his arm talent. Just off arm strength alone, he throws a perfect pass 40 yards downfield into the outstretched arms of his receiver, before the safety can come over to break it up. There are NFL starters right now that can’t make that throw. Here’s another example: South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers would probably be a first round pick if the 2026 NFL Draft was tomorrow.

However, just evaluating his 2024 tape and not factoring in positional value delivers a lower grade. Sellers’ potential is through the roof, but he needs to take several massive steps forward this season to be an NFL starter in 2026. The one-year college starter projects best as a 2027 NFL Draft prospect. Competing in two more college seasons would give Sellers plenty of time on task to round out his game and prove himself as a top draft pick. There comes a moment in every NFL Draft cycle when a team considers skipping out on a rookie quarterback with the hopes of next season's class offering more promise. Some years, that optimism is rewarded with an incredibly deep class. More often, a year of examination and adversity reveals flaws that previously went unnoticed. In the months before the 2025 season, the early indication is that the incoming crop of quarterbacks is among the best in recent memory. But for that to hold up, several prospects with questionable profiles must find success and declare. One such passer is South Carolina redshirt sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

At 6-3, 242 pounds, with a projected 40-yard dash time hovering around 4.60 seconds, few prospects have as much raw talent as Sellers. Yet, consistency has proven to be elusive, and there is work to be done before he can hear his name called in Round 1.
