Students admitted to the first time J.D. program can apply to participate in the following specialized scholars programs. Candidates are permitted to apply and be offered admission to more than one Scholars Program. However, candidates may only accept admission to one of the Business, Global, or Tech Law Scholars Programs. The Blume Scholars program is an academic and professional development program for students who intend to pursue public interest legal careers. As a Blume Scholar, you will join Georgetown’s strong public interest community and receive a faculty advisor and public interest attorney mentor.

You will also join the Public Interest Fellows program, and participate in a number of events throughout the year. The Global Law Scholars program is an academic honors program for students who are interested in pursuing a career in international or transnational law. As a Global Law Scholar, you will have the opportunity to combine language skills and cultural familiarity with rigorous and directed legal training. You will also be able to cultivate critical skills needed to practice in today’s global legal environment. The Technology Law & Policy Scholars program gives students the opportunity to engage in rigorous academic work, develop their technological skills, and deepen their understanding of policy debates related to new and emerging technologies. As a Technology Law & Policy Scholar, you will have the opportunity to work in a hands-on environment and combine practical experience with a solid theoretical foundation.

The Global Law Scholars Program (GLS) prepares students for transnational practice in which they regularly encounter problems that involve more than one legal system. The aim is to combine language skills and cultural familiarity with rigorous and directed legal training so that Scholars are ready to practice in the global legal environment of the 21st century. Approximately 20 Scholars are selected each year. The Blume Public Interest Scholars Program provides financial, community, professional, and academic support to selected Georgetown students who are dedicated to practicing law in the public interest. Blume Scholars receive faculty and attorney mentors and participate in the Blume Upper Class Seminar. Up to twenty Blume Scholars will be chosen each year.

In some cases, this means understanding enough about a foreign client's legal system to anticipate and respond to questions and problems that client may have in complying with U.S. law. Although much of international legal practice may involve corporate or transactional work, litigators, too, are finding that their practices are more and more "transnational" in the sense that their cases involve events and evidence... The Blume Public Interest Scholars Program, originally named the Public Interest Law Scholars Program when it was founded in 1988, is an integral part of Georgetown Law’s public interest community.
