qb drake maye reacts to josh allen comparison ahead of sunday s bills

Josh Allen has almost as many Top 5 NFL MVP finishes (4) as Drake Maye has career wins (5). But that isn't stopping some analysts from drawing a comparison between the two quarterbacks in advance of the AFC East game between the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots Sunday night at Highmark Stadium. Both have similar size — Allen 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds; Maye 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds — and cannons for arms. With a combined five rushing touchdowns, neither is afraid to leave the pocket. The comparisons, however, are lost on Patriots' head coach Mike Vrabel. "I don't know if I necessarily agree with that," Vrabel said this week. "I think that we want Drake to play quarterback, and that's to work the progression, work the scheme of the play. I've never said not to run, just to protect himself and to protect the ball. So, I don't necessarily agree with that. With Josh Allen, I think he's going to play quarterback how he feels gives him the best chance to win and lead his team to victory each week, which has been pretty successful."

Ever since Drake Maye became the starting quarterback at North Carolina, he has drawn comparisons to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Those comparisons didn’t stop in college. When Maye was selected No. 3 overall by the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL Draft, they only grew louder. As he enters his second year in the league, Maye is finally speaking out about the Allen comparisons. Being compared to Josh Allen is never a bad thing, especially when you’re a young up-and-coming quarterback in the NFL like Drake Maye.

Allen has been a superstar since he entered the league in 2018, throwing for 26,434 yards and 195 touchdowns in seven seasons, and winning the NFL MVP in 2024. While it’s something Maye can take pride in, he made it clear on the “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast that he knows he hasn’t earned those comparisons yet. Drake Maye backs his head coach when addressing the media on Wednesday ahead of the Patriots matchup with the Bills. The New England Patriots will play the rival Buffalo Bills in two of their final three games of the 2024 NFL season, including Sunday afternoon's matchup at Highmark Stadium. The Bills sit atop the AFC East with a 11-3 record, and they just defeated the NFC-leading Detroit Lions 48-42 on the road in Week 15. Much of the Bills' success stems from the elite performance of quarterback Josh Allen, who is the favorite to win league MVP for the first time. Allen is completing 64.4 percent of his passes for 3,395 yards with 25 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He's also making plays running the ball, with 484 yards (5.3 per carry) and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has revealed that he shares "a lot of the same things" with Josh Allen after opening up on his surprise friendship with the NFL MVP. Maye and Allen go head-to-head for just the second time in their NFL careers when the 2-2 Patriots travel to face the undefeated Bills (4-0) at Highmark Stadium this weekend, where the former will... Maye, who earned himself a brutal new nickname following a tough start to the season, went 14-for-17 passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns, plus a rushing touchdown, in the 42-13 win, leading to... On Monday, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was in no mood to entertain any such talk and was just as vague when asked whether he believed Maye is ahead of schedule at this early...

The 23-year-old, however, was asked on Wednesday for his thoughts on the comparisons to Bills, which have arisen due to his size, athleticism, and arm strength. Drake Maye has been receiving plenty of comparisons to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen since taking over as the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots. Yet, the standout rookie signal-caller isn't entertaining that kind of praise this early in his career. “I think I’ve got a long way to go to get anywhere close to playing like that," said Maye, via Boston Herald's Andrew Callahan. The timing is interesting considering the two quarterbacks will face each other on Sunday when the Patriots travel to Buffalo for a Week 16 game. Allen has had an MVP-caliber season with 3,395 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and five interceptions on the year, along with 484 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

His 79.3 quarterback rating ranks first in the NFL. New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been humble when it comes to getting compared to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Back in June, Allen said Maye was "super talented" and one of his "favorite young quarterbacks" in the NFL. Maye clearly holds the reigning league MVP in high regard as well. The second-year quarterback was asked about the comparisons during a recent appearance on Bussin' With The Boys. “He’s the MVP.

…I’ve got a lot of work to do to even be in the same stratosphere as Josh. Luckily, he’s in the division, so we have some good matchups I’m looking forward to," said Maye. "But really, comparisons, I’m just trying to be myself and at the end of the day, if some people think that, that’s a lot of respect for him. But, I got a lot of work to do for that.” If Maye continues to improve, it could set the stage for a new rivalry in the AFC East for years to come. FOXBORO -- While Sunday's Patriots-Bills showdown will likely be a one-sided affair, there is an added level of excitement with quarterbacks Josh Allen and Drake Maye set to go head-to-head for the first time. Allen is one an absolute tear this season and is likely on his way to his first NFL MVP. Maye has been impressive in his rookie season for the Patriots, and hopes to reach Allen's level in the near future. So there is a lot of juice surrounding their first head-to-head matchup, which is doing a lot of heavy lifting to make a game against an 11-3 team and a 3-11 team worth watching. While he's not playing directly against Allen on Sunday, Maye is going to have quite the task at hand as he tries to keep up with the talented QB and the a Buffalo offense... Drake Maye dealt with the comparison even before the New England Patriots selected him No.

3 overall. But it’s even more in Maye’s face this week as the lousy Patriots get set to face the division-rival Buffalo Bills on Sunday in a Week 16 matchup. Maye is looked at as a Josh Allen prototype. The two quarterbacks play a similar style, with powerful arms capable of making all the throws and an ability to make plays with their legs all the while possessing a gunslinger’s mentality. Maye is still looking to cement himself in the NFL, though, while Allen is running away with the league’s MVP award in his seventh season. And that sizable gap doesn’t go unnoticed by Maye.

“I think I’ve got a long way to go,” Maye told reporters at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, per team-provided transcript. “What a player he is, playing at an MVP level. I think the biggest thing is just the progression he’s made. I think what he dealt with, whether coming out of college or his first years here, I feel like everybody was just kind of not giving him the credit he deserved. Now, you can see kind of the full fruition of what he’s doing and the level he’s playing at. Just, like I said, fun to watch, and I think I’ve got a long way to go to get to anywhere close to playing at his level.”
