Political Advocacy Sources Media Bias Fact Check

There is no completely clear answer to this question because there is no one exact methodology to measure and rate the partisan bias of news sources. Here are a couple of resources that can help: The more detailed report, The Political Gap in Americans' News Sources, examines news usage by political party. "In many cases, supporters of the two main U.S. political parties are relying largely on different sources of news and information." In general, Republicans have lower levels of trust in national news organizations than Democrats, with those levels steadily declining since 2016. However, Republicans' trust in national news organizations and social media sites has increased somewhat since 2024.

Here are a few examples of major news sources and their so-called "bias" based on ratings from AllSides and Media Bias/Fact Check (as of July 2025) and the reported level of trust from partisan... Note that much of these ratings are based on surveys of personal perceptions. Consider that these may be impacted by the hostile media effect, wherein "partisans perceive media coverage as unfairly biased against their side" (source: Perloff, R. M. (2015). Every order President Trump has issued has been lawful. It is dangerous for sitting Members of Congress to incite insubordination in the United States’ military, and President Trump called for them to be held accountable.

Some organizations research news organizations and evaluate the general accuracy of their news reporting and their political positions. Among these is Ad Fontes Media. Ad Fontes has created and periodically updates a Media Bias Chart which categorizes news sources on two dimensions--accuracy of their factual and investigative reporting on one dimension and, on a second dimension, their editorial... It’s not the bias that is the problem, it’s the not knowing what the bias of your source is. Ad Fontes, which is Latin for to the source, evaluates over 1200 sources using a “a rigorous, reproducible methodology – and a politically balanced team of analysts – to rate that content, both for... This site collects articles and puts them side-by-side labelled by their bias. It’s a good way to see how the same story, and sometimes the same facts can be covered differently. This site researches and reviews stories themselves. They’ve traditionally focused on politicians but have covered the controversy around all things COVID as well as race relations in recent years.

As for their process: “We closely monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by the president and top administration officials, as well as congressional and party leaders. However, we primarily focus on presidential candidates in presidential election years, and on the top Senate races in midterm elections. In off-election years, our primary focus is on the action in Congress.”
