Our National Day Of Defiance June 14
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEMay 5, 2025Contact: Emily Phelps | media@nokings.org Washington, D.C. — Today, Indivisible and a coalition of pro-democracy partner organizations announced the NO KINGS Nationwide Day of Defiance on Flag Day (June 14). The actions are set to take place during Donald Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C., on June 14. Instead of allowing this military parade to be the center of gravity, activists will make action everywhere else the story of America that day. Alongside local organizers, partners, and leaders from across the pro-democracy and pro-worker movements, activists across the country will come together for marches, rallies, and demonstrations to reject corrupt, authoritarian politics in the United States.
This mobilization is inspired by the success of Hands Off! and May Day and is intended to once again motivate actions in towns and cities in every state in the country. Over 100 events have already been registered all over the country, and more will be added here. As the mobilization’s organizers announced on the website NoKings.org: "No Kings" protests will take place worldwide on June 14 intent to draw thousands of critics of what they say is President Donald Trump's birthday plans to "waste millions" on a military parade to... during the Army's 250th Birthday Parade. The $30 million-plus taxpayer-funded parade, set to include heavy tanks and armored vehicles, has not been billed as a birthday celebration for Trump, but plans to add a parade to the years-long Army celebration... Trump has over the years expressed his desire for a large military parade in the U.S., and told NBC in May the parade's cost was "peanuts." As we near Saturday's event, here's what you need to know as protests are being organized across the U.S. and other countries, from what "No Kings" means to where to find your nearest gathering. "No Kings National Day of Defiance" — or simply "No Kings" protests — are being planned across the nation on Saturday, June 14 — which falls on Flag Day, on the Army's 250th anniversary...
On June 14, Donald Trump wants tanks in the streets. He wants to grandstand, with our flag and our soldiers as props. He wants to be a tyrant king -- so he’s throwing himself a taxpayer-funded parade on his birthday, just like he’s seen other tyrants do. But we don’t do kings here. And together, we’ll let Donald Trump know it. While Trump hosts his birthday parade in DC, we’ll rise up everywhere else -- with your help, in numbers even bigger than Hands Off!

They were the battle cry of the Continental Congress that adopted the American flag in June of 1777, in the midst of a war to throw off a monarchy. June 14 in fact -- Flag Day.
Donald Trump has disgraced those principles. He’s actively defying our courts, sidelining Congress, cracking down on dissent, and, with this ego-driven military parade, stealing from the people to pay for his birthday party. More "No Kings" protests are planned across the country on June 14, the latest anti-Trump protest organized amid his second term in office. The "No Kings" protests are a "nationwide day of defiance" to "reject authoritarianism," according to the event's organizers. Dozens of grassroots groups are organizing the nationwide protests. Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible, one of those groups, told Newsweek that the goal of the protest is to send a message that the United States "has no kings" amid Trump's military parade in...
"He is planning to roll tanks through the streets of D.C. in celebration of his birthday, and that's the kind of thing you normally wouldn't see in a constitutional republic, certainly not America," Levin said. "It's something you'd see in North Korea or other authoritarian regimes." The point of the protest isn't just to "show up and be covered," he said. Donald Trump is trying to strip 16 million people of their health care, along with gutting Social Security, SNAP, and funding for public schools; he has sent the National Guard into Los Angeles to... But this Saturday is shaping up to be a nationwide day of defiance, with “No Kings Day” protests against Trump’s agenda planned for more than 2,000 cities and towns and a flagship rally slated... The demonstrations will skip Washington, D.C., where Trump is holding a $45 million self-aggrandizing military parade to mark the Army’s anniversary, which coincides with his birthday. The president also threatened that any protests there would be “met with very big force.” The event will include 6,600 soldiers, 150 vehicles, and 50 helicopters, along with a fireworks display and an all-day... When Trump began pushing for a military parade like this back in his first term, the idea was unpopular, even among his close allies; General Paul Selva, former vice-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of... How did the idea for No Kings Day come together? The military parade that Donald Trump is planning for Saturday, coinciding with his birthday, is right out of the authoritarian playbook. It’s unnecessary; it’s a waste of money; but more important, it sends the wrong signal to the world — that we are a fundamentally different type of country than we have been. This country was not founded to be authoritarian or in the image of one person. This country is a collection of voices. We have always affirmed, through all of the trials and tribulations of America, that we have no kings. How are you framing this action to those who are outside of the left or who aren’t politically disengaged?
The opposition to Donald Trump is not monolithic. It comes from every state and every part of the country, from many different political, ethnic, and racial backgrounds — it is a true representation of the country that you’re going to see at... In 2024, opposition to Donald Trump splintered. Trump’s unpopular agenda, actions, and overreaches brought the opposition back together. I’d say it’s stronger than ever. (The Center Square) – Protests are being planned across the country to deflect from the celebratory events to be held in Washington on Saturday marking the Army’s 250th birthday and Flag Day, which coincide...
The No Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance will take place “during Donald Trump’s military parade,” as the event is being billed by Indivisible, a grassroots progressive movement. The Day of Defiance comprises dozens of progressive grassroots organizations and unions, including the American Federation of Teachers and Planned Parenthood. The movement says it is comprised of “pro-democracy and pro-worker movements” and activists. “Instead of allowing this military parade to be the center of gravity, activists will make action everywhere else the story of America that day,” according to a release from Indivisible. The group says activists nationwide “will come together for marches, rallies, and demonstrations to reject corrupt, authoritarian politics in the United States,” adding that the protests are modeled after “Hands Off!” and May Day... On Saturday, June 14th, Trump is throwing himself a military birthday parade in Washington, D.C.1
That same day, Bend the Arc is proud to join Indivisible and nearly 200 partner organizations in protest for No Kings: A Nationwide Day of Defiance. Demonstrators protest U.S. President Donald Trump at the Vermont State House in Montpelier, Vermont on March 8, 2025. "Donald Trump wants to spend tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to throw himself a big fancy parade with tanks in the streets," said one organizer. "This is straight out of the authoritarian playbook."
Pro-democracy campaigners late Monday announced a nationwide "No Kings" day of defiance on June 14—the same day U.S. President Donald Trump plans to hold a birthday military parade more befitting a dictator than an elected head of state. More than 100 "No Kings" events have already been registered across the U.S., with many more expected in the weeks ahead of the day of action. Even before Donald Trump militarized his crackdown on pro-immigrant protesters in Los Angeles, a massive, nationwide demonstration was in the works for Saturday. The “No Kings” protests on June 14 have been imagined as a peaceful uprising to counter President Trump throwing himself a military parade on his birthday (which is also Flag Day and the 250th... Trump is organizing spectacle befitting a tin-pot tyrant, including a procession of tanks, Howitzers, mobile rocket launchers and other war machines rolling through the streets of Washington, D.C., as military aircraft, including Apache helicopters,...
Protest organizers have billed June 14 as a “nationwide day of defiance,” during which Americans across the country stand up to “reject authoritarianism” and reclaim patriotism in the name of democracy. “The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us,” the protest website declares. Trump has menaced demonstrators planning to show up at his military procession: “If any protester wants to come out, they will be met with very big force,” he said Tuesday. Anticipating such a reaction, protest organizers specifically decided not to target the Trump parade route; there is not even a No Kings event planned in D.C. They envision, instead, demonstrators “showing up everywhere [Trump] isn’t — to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings.”
Turnout at the nationwide demonstrations is expected to surpass the April 5 “Hands Off!” protests, which drew more than 3 million protesters to oppose the Trump government, then dominated by Elon Musk, who was...
