The actions are set to take place during Donald Trump’s military parade in Washington, D.C., on June 14. Instead of allowing this military parade to be the center of gravity, activists will make action everywhere else the story of America that day. Alongside local organizers, partners, and leaders from across the pro-democracy and pro-worker movements, activists across the country will come together for marches, rallies, and demonstrations to reject corrupt, authoritarian politics in the United States.

This mobilization is inspired by the success of Hands Off! and May Day and is intended to once again motivate actions in towns and cities in every state in the country. Over 100 events have already been registered all over the country, and more will be added here. How did the idea for No Kings Day come together?The military parade that Donald Trump is planning for Saturday, coinciding with his birthday, is right out of the authoritarian playbook. It’s unnecessary; it’s a waste of money; but more important, it sends the wrong signal to the world — that we are a fundamentally different type of country than we have been. This country was not founded to be authoritarian or in the image of one person. This country is a collection of voices. We have always affirmed, through all of the trials and tribulations of America, that we have no kings. The No Kings Nationwide Day of Defiance will take place “during Donald Trump’s military parade,” as the event is being billed by Indivisible, a grassroots progressive movement. The Day of Defiance comprises dozens of progressive grassroots organizations and unions, including the American Federation of Teachers and Planned Parenthood. The movement says it is comprised of “pro-democracy and pro-worker movements” and activists. “Instead of allowing this military parade to be the center of gravity, activists will make action everywhere else the story of America that day,” according to a release from Indivisible.
