Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old New York assemblyman and democratic socialist, has won New York’s mayoral race, according to a projection by the Associated Press. He faced Republican Curtis Sliwa and former New York governor Andrew M. Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary against Mamdani and ran as an independent in the general election.
Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani defeated former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who ran as a third-party candidate, after also defeating Cuomo in a June primary. Republican Curtis Sliwa was also in the race. Going into the final day, most polls showed Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani in the lead, with independent candidate Andrew Cuomo in second place. Over the last several days, Cuomo has targeted conservatives and Republican voters in an effort to close the gap by taking votes from GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa.

He said his win was one for the working people of New York and reiterated his campaign promises on affordability.
