SAN JOSE, CA (GTC), Mar 24, 2025 – NVIDIA has revealed plans to establish a research facility in Boston focused on advancing quantum computing technologies. The NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC) will integrate quantum hardware with AI supercomputers, creating what’s known as accelerated quantum supercomputing. The center aims to address key challenges in quantum computing, such as reducing qubit noise and turning experimental quantum processors into functional tools. Top innovators in quantum computing, including Quantinuum, Quantum Machines, and QuEra Computing, will collaborate with the NVAQC. They will work alongside researchers from universities like the Harvard Quantum Initiative in Science and Engineering (HQI) and the Engineering Quantum Systems (EQuS) group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). These collaborations aim to drive progress and grow an audience for groundbreaking quantum research.
“Quantum computing will augment AI supercomputers to tackle some of the world’s most important problems, from drug discovery to materials development,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “Working with the wider quantum research community to advance CUDA-quantum hybrid computing, the NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center is where breakthroughs will be made to create large-scale, useful, accelerated quantum supercomputers.” Through the NVAQC, commercial and academic partners will work with NVIDIA to use NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 rack-scale systems. This enables complex simulations of quantum systems and the deployment of low-latency quantum hardware control algorithms essential for quantum error correction. NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 systems will also accelerate the adoption of AI algorithms in quantum computing research. Expert Insights for the AI Business Revolution
NVIDIA announced on Monday the establishment of a Boston-based research center dedicated to advancing quantum computing through artificial intelligence (AI) and accelerated computing technologies. The NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC) will integrate quantum hardware with AI supercomputers, a concept known as accelerated quantum supercomputing, to address some of the most pressing challenges in the field. These include mitigating qubit noise and developing practical applications for quantum processors. "Quantum computing will augment AI supercomputers to tackle some of the world's most important problems, from drug discovery to materials development," NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said in a statement. "The NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center is where breakthroughs will be made to create large-scale, useful, accelerated quantum supercomputers." The NVAQC will partner with leading quantum computing firms, including Quantinuum, Quantum Machines, and QuEra Computing.
Researchers from institutions such as the Harvard Quantum Initiative in Science and Engineering (HQI) and the Engineering Quantum Systems Group (EQuS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will also collaborate at the center. NVIDIA announced at the company’s GTC conference that it will build a research center to provide cutting-edge technologies to advance quantum computing. The center, however, won’t be in Silicon Valley but located in Boston. The NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center, or NVAQC, will integrate leading quantum hardware with AI supercomputers, enabling what is known as accelerated quantum supercomputing. The NVAQC will help solve quantum computing’s most challenging problems, ranging from qubit noise to transforming experimental quantum processors into practical devices. Quantum computing innovators, including Quantinuum, Quantum Machines and QuEra Computing, will tap into the NVAQC to drive advancements through collaborations with researchers from leading universities, such as the Harvard Quantum Initiative in Science and...
The NVAQC is expected to begin operations later this year. “Quantum computing will augment AI supercomputers to tackle some of the world’s most important problems, from drug discovery to materials development,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “Working with the wider quantum research community to advance CUDA-quantum hybrid computing, the NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center is where breakthroughs will be made to create large-scale, useful, accelerated quantum supercomputers.” NVIDIA has announced plans to establish the NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC) in Boston, focusing on advancing quantum computing technology. The center will integrate quantum hardware with AI supercomputers to enable accelerated quantum supercomputing. The facility will collaborate with leading quantum computing innovators including Quantinuum, Quantum Machines, and QuEra Computing, alongside researchers from Harvard Quantum Initiative and MIT's Engineering Quantum Systems group.
The center will utilize NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 rack-scale systems, described as the most powerful hardware for quantum computing applications. Key focus areas include solving quantum computing challenges such as qubit noise, quantum error correction, and transforming experimental processors into practical devices. The center will employ the NVIDIA CUDA-Q™ quantum development platform for developing hybrid quantum algorithms. Operations are expected to commence later in 2025. On the day this news was published, NVDA declined 3.43%, reflecting a moderate negative market reaction. Data tracked by StockTitan Argus on the day of publication.
