"No Kings" protests are planned in New York City and across the country Saturday in opposition to what some are characterizing as increasingly authoritarian practices by President Donald Trump. Thousands are expected to attend, especially in America's largest cities. The main event in Manhattan is expected to start in Times Square's Father Duffy Square, starting at 11 a.m. Another big one is planned for Brooklyn. Those interested may learn more here. It's the second "No Kings" protest and third mass movement against the administration this year, and it comes amid an intensifying conflict between federal law enforcement and protesters nationwide.

Fifth Avenue was closed to traffic from 42nd Street to 23rd Street in Manhattan as protesters marched from Bryant Park. Streets reopened at 42nd Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, as well as at 40th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, just after 4 p.m. Police said as of 5 p.m., the rallies have been largely peaceful. There have been three arrests.

The charges are unknown. The protests coincide with Saturday's military parade in Washington, D.C., celebrating the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary. It is also President Trump's 79th birthday. Over 100 "No Kings" protests are planned for Saturday, Oct. 18, across New York state as some Americans continue to push back against the Trump administration's actions.

It's the second of its kind this year; the first took place back in June and drew hundreds to places like Durand-Eastman Park in Irondequoit, the Women's Rights National Historic Park in Seneca Falls... According to the No Kings website, the following issues are mentioned: "In June, we did what many claimed was impossible: peacefully mobilized millions of people to take to the streets and declare with one voice: America has No Kings. And it mattered," the No Kings website says. "Now President Trump has doubled down ... The president thinks his rule is absolute.

But in America, we don't have kings and we won't back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty." A note at the bottom of the website states the No Kings events are "a commitment to nonviolent action."
