New England Patriots Shockingly Pass On Travis Hunter In New Mock Draf
The New England Patriots badly need a long-term No. 1 wide receiver to pair with young franchise quarterback Drake Maye. That is one area that they are expected to target aggressively during the upcoming NFL offseason. With that in mind, the Patriots are expected to have a very high pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Right now, they are projected to have the No. 3 pick if the season ended today.
Of course, there is one player at the top of the draft that every fan in New England would love to see the franchise get. That player is none other than Colorado Buffaloes superstar Travis Hunter. If the Patriots do end up getting the No. 3 overall pick, they could end up having a shot at Hunter. At the top of the draft, there is a chance that two quarterbacks would be taken back to back. In that scenario, New England would have the chance to select Hunter.
The New England Patriots have been active in free agency. They have the fourth overall pick in this year's NFL Draft and could add another impact player. The Patriots need to add a pass catcher and are seemingly in a position to add Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. However, Yahoo Sports' latest mock draft, Charles McDonald predicts the Patriots will miss out on Hunter and select Armand Membou. "Surprise? It shouldn’t be that big of one, considering how many boxes Membou has checked off throughout the draft cycle," wrote McDonald.
"He has a legitimate case to be the first offensive tackle off the board. The Patriots need an OT still and Membou has the skills and talent to play either on the right or left side of the line." The pick should be slightly shocking as Louisiana State University lineman Will Campbell was still available. Campbell has been labeled the best lineman in this draft and is often the first lineman taken in mock drafts. However, in this scenario, the Patriots choose to go with Membou over Campbell. The University of Missouri lineman is 6-foot-four-inches tall and weighed in at 332 pounds at the NFL Combine.
He could be a key addition to their offensive line as they look to protect Drake Maye in his second season. The team signed Morgan Moses this offseason and adding Membou could be a great compliment to him. As the prospect-evaluation period winds down, it's time for me to take a second crack at projecting Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft (April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin). Trades obviously will be a major element of the real thing next month, but just like in my first mock, I'm keeping everyone in their current draft slots. It appears the Titans continue to be open for business with the No. 1 overall pick.
In this scenario, they stay at No. 1 and find their new face of the franchise. Sanders fits head coach Kevin Stefanski's run-first, heavy play-action attack quite well. I wouldn’t rule out a quarterback for the Giants here if Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders were available, even after the signings of Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. With the top QBs already off the board in this mock, New York lands the prospect many believe is the best player in the draft. The Patriots have addressed needs on defense and at receiver in free agency, but they shouldn’t stop at Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins when it comes to adding more weapons for Drake Maye.
We know Hunter can impact the game on both sides of the ball, but New England can’t pass on a chance to truly strike fear into defenses for the first time in a while... Phil Perry is sharing the buzz he’s hearing about Travis Hunter at the NFL Combine on the latest Next Pats Podcast. The New England Patriots badly need a No. 1 wide receiver for quarterback Drake Maye to target next season and well into the future. The lack of a dominant player at this position has been a roster weakness in New England for several years now, and until it's fixed, neither Maye nor the offense as a whole will... The 2025 NFL draft class is pretty weak at wide receiver.
We saw three wideouts drafted in the top 10 last season. We might see only three taken in the entire first round this year. Subscribe to NBC Sports Boston's podcast network to hear our Insiders bring you the latest insights on your favorite teams! New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is a defensive-minded guy. If the Patriots want to get back to the top, they'll have to improve their defense. However, with the No.
4 pick, a young quarterback who needs weapons, and a potential generational talent in Travis Hunter available, selecting the Colorado star would make sense. Hunter wants to play both sides of the football in the NFL. While he proved in college he could do it, perhaps that's wishful thinking. Teams like New England could view that as a disaster waiting to happen. But even if the Patriots don't want to take a chance on Hunter, why wouldn't they improve their offensive line? One could make an argument that their line was a more significant issue than their weapons, despite both being a problem.
New England Sports Network host Travis Thomas has explained his belief that the New England Patriots must draft Colorado Buffaloes star dual-threat player Travis Hunter if he falls to them in next year’s draft. While discussing the 2025 NFL Draft on the Foxboro Rush show, the possibility of trading down or drafting an offensive lineman was floated around by the other co-hosts. In response, Thomas gave a bold statement on the matter. The Patriots have shown improvement since rookie quarterback Drake Maye took over the offense. However, the once-dominant franchise still needs drastic development on both sides of the ball. In the previously mentioned video released to X (formerly known as Twitter), Thomas explained how there was no way the Patriots should overlook Hunter should he fall to them in the draft.
“If they pick 3rd and Travis Hunter is on the board and they don’t take him, I’m blaming you,” he stated. He also referenced how no other situation, whether that be trading down the order or drafting some other position, would be sufficient if Hunter is on the board and available. On his first day back at the office following the New England Patriots’ late-season bye weekend, Jerod Mayo expressed his optimism about himself as a head coach and the team in general despite a... During his weekly radio appearance on WEEI, Mayo was asked whether he believes he’ll become a successful NFL coach. “One hundred percent,” Mayo responded. “I know I’ll be successful.
One hundred percent. And look, you’re going to go through these trying times. Like, that’s what it is. And the mark of a true leader is being able to navigate this and knowing that you’re going the right way. And I truly believe that we are going the right way. In the short term, it may be disappointing, but in the long term, we’re doing it the right way.”

Placing just outside of the top three spots puts New England in an interesting position in terms of how this year's class stacks up. Many have seen Colorado's Travis Hunter and Penn State's Abdul Carter as the two top blue-chip guys in the incoming group of prospects, and with three teams lying ahead of them on the board,... Yet, what if the Patriots passed on both prospects even if the two of them were on the board?
In Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports' latest mock draft, the Patriots do just that. Instead of picking up Hunter or Carter, Wilson predicted the Patriots to target LSU tackle Will Campbell to shore up their questions on the offensive line.
