I decided to opt for the self-paced version because the schedules they offered for the live classes would probably prove to be a bit difficult to juggle, what with everything else I have going... Some other online classes use the AoPS textbooks alone to cover the material taught, but it really isn’t the same as what you get out of the full, paid AoPS classes. The real meat is in the human feedback you get on writing problems and the real-time live help on the message board. The course textbooks just act as a supplement to help teach the material. Understand how algebra is relevant to every aspect of your daily life and become skilled at solving a variety of algebraic problems.

Your first lesson introduces Al-jabru, the Arabic word for algebra that means the science of restoration and canceling. You will search for algebraic solutions and learn definitions, numeric properties, and basic operations that originated from the ancient lands where papyrus was used instead of paper. Introduction to Algebra is the foundation of upper level mathematics. In Algebra we study linear equations, quadratic equations, graphing, and solving for the unknown. This course contains all of a typical Algebra 1 course and most of a typical Algebra 2 course. If your student only wants to complete Algebra 1, then he will stop after Chapter 14 in the text.
