Interdisciplinary Collaboration Hub Sph Hku Hk
The School of Public Health has established Interdisciplinary Collaboration Hubs to drive advancements in public health through integrated research, education, and community engagement. Building upon the School’s existing strengths, the hubs encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration that advances knowledge and translates it into practical community health improvements. This initiative highlights our School’s commitment to advancing public health through sustainable, interdisciplinary partnerships that generate meaningful academic and societal impact. The Healthy Aging Hub leverages Elderly Biobank (EB) which was built on the Elderly Health Service (EHS) Cohort, to advance interdisciplinary research on healthy aging. It establishes collaborative platforms that bridge epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmacology and health economics to better understand chronic diseases. Through the valuable data resources, seminars and roundtable discussions, the hub empowers researchers and fosters networking and collaboration opportunities.
By bridging research with real-world applications, it shares findings with the public and translates the findings into public health promotion initiatives that promote healthy aging and longevity. Please visit the Healthy Aging Hub website for more information. The One Health Hub is dedicated to advancing solutions for complex health challenges at the human-animal-environment interface, embodying the One Health approach. By bringing together the diverse strengths of the School of Public Health and empowering the community, we create opportunities for collective action aimed at achieving population health outcomes. Through strategic knowledge exchange, collaborative research partnerships, and dynamic community outreach, we tackle urgent issues such as antimicrobial resistance, emerging infectious diseases, and the far-reaching effects of climate change. Please visit the One Health Hub website for more information.

Research and Impact Initiative on Communication in Healthcare (HKU RIICH) in the Faculty of Arts, the University of Hong Kong is an international interdisciplinary research hub that was launched in June 2019. We are a founding member of the International Consortium for Communication in Health Care (IC4CH), an international, interdisciplinary collaboration that brings together leaders in the field of healthcare communication. At HKU RIICH, we work across the fields of language and communication, education, social sciences, and medicine. We conduct innovative evidence-based research on healthcare communication with the aim of transforming healthcare practices and healthcare education in Hong Kong and internationally.
We understand the critical importance of health communication for all aspects of effective healthcare: from health prevention and health maintenance to illness, treatment, and recovery. Effective health communication applies to all types of health care settings: primary care and hospital contexts; pediatric and aged care contexts; acute illnesses and chronic diseases. Through our interdisciplinary research, we work to enhance healthcare communication and to contribute to quality healthcare and patient safety and well-being. We are committed to impactful research and work closely with medical and healthcare institutions, health NGOs, and community groups in Hong Kong and internationally. We apply evidence-based findings from our research to develop educational resources for pre- and post-qualification medical and health professionals and to engage in community outreach programmes.
