Learning and Research Services aims to support teaching, learning and research for the University community. We offer tools and services supporting different stages of the research cycle. Find out more about these services. The Library provides photocopying and printing facilities operate on a quota-based system (uPrint) in all floors, and scanning facilities without charges. The Enquiries Counter is located on the 2/F of the Main Library, which provides services related to registration for various library memberships, reader's cards that allows entry to other non-UGC libraries, etc. Please refer to its service hours here.
Located on the 2/F of the Main Library, the Self-Service Collection houses course reserve materials and HKU requested books. You can simply tap your staff/student/facilities access card to access course reserve materials or pick up the requested books. Located on the 2/F New Wing of the Main Library (next to the Atrium), the battery charging stations includes Type-C, lightning, and Micro-B cables and can charge up to 7 devices. Residential places on campus for postgraduate students are limited and in great demand. Only students enrolled in government-funded programmes are eligible to University housing. Most taught course postgraduate programmes are not funded by the government.
For those eligible for University housing, you can visit CEDARS website for details and online application. For those who need to look for private off-campus accommodation near the University, you can contact CEDARS for assistance and advice. More information is also available from CEDARS website. The University has 13 halls of residence, which mainly accommodate full-time undergraduate students; only a small percentage of places are assigned to postgraduate students in each Hall, application of which are held in April... Taught course postgraduates are strongly advised to use the Housing Service to find their own accommodation outside the University. The JULAC card allows access to all UGC-funded libraries' resources and borrowing privileges for HKU Teaching, Research staff (including Research Assistants and Demonstrators), Professional & Senior Administrative staff, and HKU postgraduate students. HKU undergraduate students are eligible to apply for reader's access. UGC-funded libraries may implement blackout periods for all JULAC Library Cardholders according to the needs of their own users. HKU Part-time / Visiting / Honorary Staff who receive an employee ID (known as staff number) can have access to e-resources. After the HKU Staff Portal is synchronized to the library systems in 2 working days, you will be able to login. The Libraries consists of the Main Library, Dental Library, Fung Ping Shan Library, Lui Che Woo Law Library, Music Library, Tin Ka Ping Education Library, Yu Chun Keung Medical Library, and Ko Wong Wai... Of scholarly interest is Special Collections which houses a unique collection of Hong Kong materials, rare books, pamphlets, and microforms.
Established in October 1912 and located in two rooms in The University of Hong Kong’s Main Building with a floor area of about 288 square meters plus a small Medical section in the Pathology... Fung Ping Shan Library was established in 1932 as the University's Chinese library through a generous donation by the late Mr Fung Ping Shan. Construction of the library began in 1929. It was completed three years later and was officially opened on 14 December 1932 by Sir William Peel, then Governor of Hong Kong. In 1961, Fung Ping Shan Library moved into the Main Library building and, with the consent of the Fung Family, the original library premises were converted into the Fung Ping Shan Museum. The Libraries offers a conducive environment for study, research, and knowledge exchange.
HKU Campus Wi-Fi services are available throughout the Libraries connecting patrons to the HKU network and to a number of printers in the Libraries. Scanners are also available and payment for the peripheral usage can easily be made by using uPrint. In the Libraries, you can find a variety of space and facilities for different purposes. Need a space to focus on your research and study? Research carrels are provided for HKU higher degree students who are enrolled in Master's or Doctoral programs. These carrels can be booked for a half-month period and are conveniently located in the Main Library and some branch libraries. They are accessible during the opening hours of the respective spaces.
