AI is progressing at a pace that leading corporations are struggling to address. According to a just published survey, 64.2% of corporate data and AI leaders believe that Generative AI has the potential to be the most transformational new technology in a generation, with 62.3% reporting that... Even as leading corporations embrace Generative AI, there is a recognition that progress will require significant levels of transformation, as well as the establishment of safeguards for ethical use. According to the survey, 99.0% of executives recognize a need for safeguards and guardrails, yet just 62.9% report that these safeguards are in place within their organizations. In addition, only 42.3% say that well-established policies and practices around data and AI responsibility and ethics have been implemented within their companies. Finally, just 50.5% report that the talent is in place within their companies to responsibly implement Generative AI.

These are issues that leading corporations are struggling to address. I recently wrote about how Ally Financial is delivering business value from Generative AI, but as a digital innovator, Ally represents the exception rather than the rule. It should therefore come as little surprise that there is a gap between corporate ambitions and corporate capabilities and readiness as it pertains to the implementation of Generative AI in production, as just 4.7%... The ability to deliver business value and accelerate innovation using GenAI remains an aspiration for most. As companies seek to address these challenges, universities are increasingly recognizing the need and the opportunity to assist industry in their efforts to accelerate AI adoption. An early leader in these efforts is the Institute for Experiential AI at Northeastern University .

Recently, I came to learn more about the Institute program and its function in the larger context of Northeastern University and the D’Amore McKim School of Business. Tina EliassiRad is Professor and the inaugural President Joseph E. Aoun Chair at Northeastern, in addition to being a core faculty member at the Institute for Experiential AI. Eliassi-Rad, who is known for her research at the intersection of AI and applied ethics, was the 2023 recipient of the Lagrange Prize for her work on ethical approaches to artificial intelligence.

Along with partners across Northeastern University, the Institute for Experiential AI (EAI) will host a vital conversation on recent developments in generative AI on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. The event will take place live at the Raytheon Amphitheater in the Egan Research Center with expert panel discussions and the announcement of new initiatives and courses at the university. “As advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence bring unprecedented capabilities to business, education, and the general public, Northeastern University sits at the forefront of this technological revolution,” said Fayyad. “It’s imperative that we address the fast-changing world of generative AI and work together to answer crucial questions on the changing nature of our work, the technology we teach, how we prepare learners, the... WHEN: Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 8:30 a.m.

to 11:30 a.m. EDT WHERE: Egan Research Center, Raytheon Amphitheater, 120 Forsyth Street, Boston, MA or Online Northeastern University established the Institute for Experiential AI with a clear purpose to address the challenges of real-world application of AI and to meet the needs of industry. The establishment of this new institute builds on the importance of collaboration between education and industry, which Northeastern University has cultivated over many years. ### Background and Purpose of Establishment Northeastern University has traditionally worked closely with industry and has focused on understanding the actual needs of companies.

This provides students with practical knowledge and skills that can be useful in real-world business scenarios. The establishment of the Experiential AI Lab was part of deepening this tradition. According to David Roux, American education is under-invested in the future of technology. Roux and Northeastern University President Joseph Aoun aim that the new institute will make a significant investment in the training of the next generation and enhance the interaction between education and industry. This makes it possible to provide an important curriculum for students. ### Collaboration with industry President Aoun says that education advances research as much as industry.

This emphasizes the interdependence of education and industry. In particular, the promotion of "human-centric AI," which combines real-world business experience with AI, is the main focus of the Experiential AI Institute. ### Human-AI Convergence Usama Fayyad, executive director of the Experiential AI Institute, says it's important to understand how AI works in real-world data and environments. Data management skills are very important, and human intervention at the right time can increase the effectiveness of machine learning. For example, Bose has successfully leveraged AI to improve the user experience of its products, understand its supply chain, and gain new insights from customer data. In particular, AI is reported to play an important role in advancing the core competencies of speech processing.

### Synergy between Education and Industry Northeastern University has made a significant impact in both teaching and research by working to solve real-world problems that meet the needs of industry. The Experiential AI Lab was established to further these efforts, collaborating with experts from a variety of disciplines to develop AI solutions that address real-world business challenges. In this way, Northeastern University combines traditional teaching methods with industry collaborations to provide a beneficial learning environment for both students and companies. The Institute for Experiential Artificial Intelligence (EAI) was established as an important hub for Northeastern University to develop "human-centered AI" in collaboration with industry. The institute plays an important role in moving AI technology from theory to practice and applying it to real industry and society.
