Kirk was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Two potential suspects were detained that day but were later released, sparking a two-day manhunt. The FBI, which was assisting with the probe, released video footage late Thursday showing a man running across the roof of a building and then jumping off the side.

Kirk was shot in the neck on Wednesday afternoon while speaking to students at Utah Valley University. Multiple videos posted on social media show Kirk was sitting under a tent in the courtyard, answering questions from the crowd, when he was shot. He died later at Timpanogos Hospital. As of Thursday evening, public safety officials were still looking for the gunman. In an evening press briefing, they shared new surveillance video of the suspected gunman running across the roof of a building, then jumping off and running away from the UVU campus.
