2026 nfl mock draft commanders land ohio state star wr

The Washington Commanders finally settled on a contract extension with wide receiver Terry McLaurin that will keep him with the team until 2029. There are currently five wide receivers on the team, but both Noah Brown and Deebo Samuel will be free agents in 2026. That leaves only McLaurin, Jaylin Lane, and Luke McCaffrey as the team's receivers heading into the 2026 season. Obviously, the Commanders could attempt to keep both Brown and Samuel via contract extensions, but they also need to continue to add youth to that group. Adding youth to the receivers' room is important enough that CBS Sports predicts, in their 2026 preseason mock draft, that the Commanders will select wide receiver Carnell Tate out of Ohio State. Terry McLaurin has officially signed his extension with the Commanders, and now Jayden Daniels gets another offensive weapon.

Carnell Tate is a smooth mover with a large catch radius who can make plays after the catch as well. If you've watched Tate over the last two years at Ohio State, you already know he would be a fantastic fit with Jayden Daniels. In his two seasons at OSU, Tate has recorded 70 receptions for 997 yards and five touchdowns while sharing snaps with the likes of Jeremiah Smith and Emeka Egbuka. Tate's 6-foot-3 frame and lanky limbs give him an extra reach above opposing corners and safeties, and he's athletic enough to break tackles and get down the field in a hurry once the ball... Watch him closely this season. If he decides to declare for the draft, he will certainly go in the first round.

The Washington Commanders are home to one of the best wide receivers in the league in Terry McLaurin, as evidenced by his three-year, $96 million extension he signed last week. McLaurin's future may be with the Commanders, but he is going to need some help. Deebo Samuel was acquired via trade from the San Francisco 49ers, but he is only under contract for another year. That's why CBS Sports writer Mike Renner has the Commanders taking Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate with the No. 25 overall pick in the NFL Draft next spring. "Terry McLaurin has officially signed his extension with the Commanders, and now Jayden Daniels gets another offensive weapon.

Carnell Tate is a smooth mover with a large catch radius who can make plays after the catch as well," Renner wrote. One of those passes was hauled in for a touchdown to help give the Buckeyes the score they needed to win the game. The 2026 NFL Draft may not be as quarterback dominated as once perceived.

There is Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, Alabama’s Ty Simpson and then everyone else. The ironic part of those two being at the top of the board is those weren’t the quarterback prospects envisioned as the top prospects entering the 2025 college football season. That is just how quick things can change in the world of football and how unpredictable things can flow once the actual games are played on the field. So, what about teams like the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns who hold top 5 picks as the season stand now and are need of quarterback talent. Once Mendoza and Simpson are off the board, could one of those teams and other teams in need of a franchise QB go in other directions and take their chances on a QB in... If they do, who are the prizes out there?

When it comes to talent beyond quarterback, some of the big names and high risers are draft boards reside at Ohio State. Caleb Downs was already a name high on most NFL scouts’ radars, but suddenly names like Arvell Reese, Carnell Tate and Sonny Styles are emerging as game-changing prospects most teams will be aiming for. Where will those players land and who will be taken No. 1 overall? This Week 11 edition of the NFL Mocks’ 2026 NFL Mock Draft explores the draft board if the season was to end today. As the calendar nears November, more NFL fans are considering their teams' futures - specifically in April for the NFL Draft.

The 2025 NFL season hasn't gone as well as hoped for some teams across the league and they'll look to find future stars to build around in the next draft class. They'll be rewarded with an intriguing group of prospects. The 2026 NFL Draft was initially touted as one rife with quarterback talent. That hasn't exactly panned out as expected thanks to multiple potential first-round quarterbacks regressing (Texas' Arch Manning) or suffering season-ending injuries after inconsistent performances (Penn State's Drew Allar). Still, some passers have risen in the ranks thanks to breakout seasons. They're not alone.

Wide receiver was initially expected to be a one-player position in the first round - Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson - but players from multiple different programs are playing their way into first-round consideration. Offensive tackle offers few finished products but plenty of talented, traits-filled prospects for coaching staffs to mold into long-term starters. It's a good year to need a linebacker, too, as well as versatile edge rushers. There's a misconception floating around about the 2026 NFL Draft. Before this college season kicked off, Texas' Arch Manning, South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers and LSU's Garrett Nussmeier were widely viewed as the top eligible quarterback prospects. Those three haven't quite met the early expectations, which has some people jumping to the conclusion that this is a "weak" QB class.

In reality, the rise of Indiana's Fernando Mendoza (my QB1 back in May), Alabama's Ty Simpson and Oregon's Dante Moore has reshaped the board. All three still have remaining eligibility and could theoretically return to school in 2026, but in today's thought exercise, they come off the board quickly -- just not at No. 1 overall. Four teams enter the first round with multiple picks, while just as many have none. The Browns and Rams dealt away theirs in separate draft-day moves a year ago, and the Jets and Cowboys moved on from Quinnen Williams and Micah Parsons, respectively. To set the stage, here are the current odds to be the No.

1 overall pick (via FanDuel Sportsbook). Reminder: This is the current NFL draft order after Week 10 (via Tankathon). The Titans could use more blocking protection for Cam Ward. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Fano has a lot of talent and has played well at tackle for the Utes. He has been a versatile tackle with 11 starts at left tackle and 13 at right tackle heading into the 2025 season. For the most part, Fano played on the left side in 2023 and on the right side in 2024.

Fano is fast, athletic, and plays with a mean streak. He is a force as a run blocker and shows a lot of athleticism to take away speed rushers. A lot of teams could fall in love with his tape. Unless Tyler Shough impresses over the final two months of the season, New Orleans will be looking for a true franchise quarterback. Simpson has been phenomenal in 2025, leading the Crimson Tide to some big wins against tough opponents. In 2025, Simpson has completed 67 percent of his passes for 2,461 yards with 21 touchdowns, an interception, and two rushing touchdowns.

Simpson has shown some serious arm talent, making some beautiful throws downfield with superb ball placement to beat tight coverage. In tight games, Simpson made some great passes to lead his team to wins over Georgia and Missouri. Simpson is accurate, smart, has a strong arm, and throws with timing and anticipation. Simpson has shown superb ball security this season as well, with excellent decision-making. The Giants grab a right tackle to help protect Jaxson Dart. The 6-foot-8, 309-pounder World dominated at Nevada, and if he plays as well at Oregon, he could skyrocket for the 2025 NFL Draft.

As a pass blocker, World has a natural build with good size, strength, and length to play on the edge. He does a nice job of sinking his weight to stop bull rushes, and he shows an impressive ability to kill speed to power attempts. World does an excellent job of sustaining his blocks with the upper body strength to tie up defenders. In the ground game, World uses his strong upper body to knock defenders back and push them around. He has real power at the point of attack and blocks with a mean streak. With overwhelming mass, he can knock defenders flat on their backs and will bury them with a violent pancake block.

The Browns take their next hope for a franchise quarterback. Mendoza has completed 71 percent of his passes for 2,342 yards with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions. He has two rushing touchdowns as well. The 6-foot-5, 225-pounder has a quality arm, reads the field well, makes good decisions, and has dangerous pocket passing ability. Mendoza played well for Cal in 2024. He completed 69 percent of his passes for 3,004 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Mendoza has good size, and it will be interesting to see how he develops at Indiana. The Jets grab a franchise quarterback to build around. Moore has been a dynamic point-producer for the Ducks in 2025, making plays with his arm and legs. In 2025, Moore has completed 71 percent of his passes for 1,884 yards with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions. Moore (6-3, 203) is a dangerous quarterback who is tough to defend. He has shown impressive arm talent and feel as a passer.

Moore throws some beautiful deep balls and shows impressive composure and poise for a young player. Copyright 2008-2026 Drafttek.com. All Rights Reserved. When is it too early to start talking about next year's NFL Draft? The answer, from a writer's standpoint, is never. It's the middle of July. Free agency has all but come to a standstill, and offseason workouts are now complete until training camp. Let's face it, there's not much happening in the NFL world, so we might as well look ahead. The Washington Commanders will have high expectations in 2025 after their surprise run to the NFC Championship, meaning that ideally they'll be selecting near the end of the first round of the 2026 NFL...
