There is a long way to go and a lot of football to come before the 2026 NFL Draft. But make no mistake, general manager Adam Peters' accomplished front-office staff will already be analyzing college football's latest stars before the all-important assessment process. The Washington Commanders don't have much in the way of picks once again. They are slated to have just five selections after some frantic trade activity during the offseason.

That reduces the margin for error, but Peters has already proven capable of doing more with less. Needs will change depending on how things unfold in the coming months. But for now, we took a look at some early perceptions in a seven-round 2026 mock draft using the Pro Football Network simulator. Bobby Wagner is a phenomenal player, but he isn't getting any younger. The Commanders need to find a long-term replacement for the future Pro Football Hall of Famer. Adding Anthony Hill Jr.

would solve more problems than one. Hill is a dynamic second-level presence. The Texas standout is explosive to the contact point, is a legitimate sideline-to-sideline presence, and can make things happen in pass-rushing situations. Placing him next to Frankie Luvu would instantly be a ferocious tandem if this is Wagner's final season. Excitement is building ahead of the NFL season. The Washington Commanders look primed for another deep postseason run if everyone gets a clear run of luck on the health front.

But for those in the front office and scouting department, attention is elsewhere. The college football campaign is officially underway. That means draft plans are already being formed behind the scenes as prospects increase or diminish their stock based on performances in a high-profile setting. Considering how the Commanders are always thinking two steps ahead with general manager Adam Peters leading the charge, the hard work has already begun to ensure Washington hits the ground running when the offseason... And after two good drafts from the front-office leader so far, another will put this storied franchise on the right path to long-term prosperity. The Commanders have six picks as things stand.

They don't have second or fourth-round selections right now after acquiring five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans. However, they got an extra sixth-rounder by shipping running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the San Francisco 49ers. A lot can and will change in the coming months. But using the Pro Football Network simulator, we took an early look at what the Commanders might need in this seven-round mock draft. Washington had several needs entering last week’s draft, but Adam Peters said the first three picks were the highest-rated players on their board. Washington drafted Jacory Croskey-Merritt in the 7th round, and he is the only running back who will be under contract after this season(Chris Rodriguez Jr. is a restricted free agent).

Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love and Penn State’s Nicholas Singleton are popular choices to be the Commanders’ new feature back. The one position that Washington got knocked the most for not drafting this year was EDGE/DE, and that is the second-most mocked position for the Commanders in this roundup. There are 8 different players over 11 different mock drafts. Washington is expected to sign a veteran free agent after not drafting one, but they will likely be looking to get younger at the position next year. The Titans currently own the No. 1 overall pick, but because they selected Cam Ward last year, they will look to trade down.

The Jets have so many resources to pull the trigger to move up for the top choice. The Jets obviously need a quarterback. Justin Fields had a great Week 1, but completed only three passes against the Bills. Fields has gotten worse ever since, save for the Cincinnati win. The Jets need to start over, and they can do that with this prospect. Ty Simpson has won some big games and has thrived with his superb ball placement.
