2025 nfl mock draft roundup patriots should bolster d line in round 1

Phil Perry looks ahead to each positional group in the 2025 NFL Draft and projects which players might be the best fit for the Patriots. The 2025 NFL Draft is just a few days away, and there's still plenty of debate over what the New England Patriots should do with the No. 4 overall pick in the first round. The most popular prediction is taking Will Campbell. The LSU star is the No. 1 ranked offensive tackle in the class and considered one of the safest prospects.

New England's No. 1 roster weakness entering the draft is left tackle, so it makes sense to target one of those players in Round 1. That said, Campbell probably wouldn't be a top five or top 10 pick in a deeper or better draft. You also could argue that the Patriots really need a playmaker at No. 4. That might be a running back (Ashton Jeanty), tight end (Tyler Warren) or an edge rusher (Abdul Carter, Jalon Walker).

NFL mock draft roundup: Will Patriots make bold choice in Round 1? originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The New England Patriots addressed a lot of their biggest roster weaknesses through NFL free agency, but plenty of needs still remain entering the 2025 NFL Draft next week. The Patriots could go in several different directions with the No. 4 overall pick, and the decision likely will be tougher if Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter and Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter are both off the board.

What exactly is Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel hoping to accomplish in this draft? “I think it’s to add as many quality players and quality people. You want to come out of it with some starters,” Vrabel told reporters in a pre-draft press conference earlier this week. “You want to come out of it with some depth and role players that can build the strength and the depth of the roster, the backup players and the situational players. Our staff has compiled what the top 'experts' are predicting the New England Patriots will do in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Jeremiah's Analysis: "The Patriots must upgrade the left tackle position heading into Year 2 for Drake Maye.

Campbell fits the bill. He'll be a long-term starter for New England." Click here for Daniel Jeremiah's full mock draft. Perry's Analysis: "This one simply makes too much sense for the Patriots. Campbell is widely regarded by evaluators as the top offensive tackle in an imperfect tackle class. He possesses elite movement skills.

He was a three-year starter in the SEC. And his intangibles have made a fantastic impression on decision-makers at One Patriot Place throughout the pre-draft process. His arms measured just 33 inches at his Pro Day, leading some to wonder whether his best fit will ultimately be at guard. But Campbell's combination of athleticism, toughness and intelligence will help make him a leader in a locker room that could use as much of that as it can get." From the Patriots' perspective, "good riddance." The good news is no team has won three straight Super Bowls, and that's fine here! The Patriots' season (except for drafting Drake Maye) was a dud from the beginning of the offseason to the final meaningless but ultra-costly "phony win" over the Buffalo Bills. Thankfully for Patriot Nation, we're onto 2025 with the new, experienced Head Coach, Mike Vrabel, who's now built his coaching staff and will presumably (and hopefully) handle the whole show, including personnel. A reversion to last offseason's personnel team has disaster written all over it. Free agency looms large early, but the draft looms even larger for huge swaths of Patriots fans, who hope against hope every April for a draft that makes sense. Here, we'll try to concoct one and present a quick four-rounder right after the Super Bowl.

With perhaps their top choices, cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter and edge Abdul Carter, off the board, the Patriots have a tough choice at pick No. 4. They can trade down and out from the top players in the draft or pick one of the two consensus top six players. They are LSU's offensive left tackle, Will Campbell, and Michigan's defensive tackle, Mason Graham. They take Campbell and fill one of their top needs overall. Campbell holds Pro Football Focus's coveted best-available in the draft at tackle distinction.

After Drew Lock threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns in a Giants win over the Colts, the New England Patriots moved into the number one overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. The early returns on Drake Maye have been positive, but they need help in multiple other spots. I used nflmockdraftdatabase.com’s Mock Draft Simulator and ran through a seven-round mock draft as the New England Patriots. Like in my previous mock drafts, I tried to stick to the big board, and I wasn’t allowed to trade down or up in the draft order. Here’s how it turned out. Travis Hunter is the consensus best player in this draft.

He’s going to play on both sides of the ball at the next level but with his 94th percentile Coverage grade, his primary position will most likely be cornerback. He has an 88th percentile AI Receiving grade and will be a weapon for Drake Maye in his sophomore season. New England is currently allowing some of the highest pressure rates in the league and need to add to their offensive line. Jonah Savaiinaea has played guard, left tackle, and right tackle in college and he has an 88th percentile AI Passing Blocking grade. This pick came down to Savaiinaea and Alabama’s Tyler Booker. Savaiinaea's versatility gave him the slight edge here.

The Pats need to add a run defending defensive edge player. Anfernee Jennings leads the group with a 59th percentile AI Run Defense grade and New England is currently 25th against the run in terms of yards per game. LT Overton and his 98th percentile AI Run Defense grade is exactly what they need to help fix that. The Patriots are also bottom three in sacks this season, so with the extra third round pick they acquired from Atlanta for the Matthew Judon trade, they continue to bolster their defensive line and... As the season winds down, the New England Patriots hold the number one pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With an offense averaging just 16.6 points per game—ranking No.

30 in the NFL—the Patriots are poised to prioritize an offensive overhaul, regardless of their season finale outcome against the Buffalo Bills. In this week’s NFL Draft Notebook, we outline how New England can address their offensive struggles through seven-round mock draft. We also spotlight key rookies to watch this weekend, examine how critical matchups could impact the draft landscape, and finish up by highlighting a rookie quarterback who could be on the move this offseason. Round 1, Pick 1: Travis Hunter, CB/WR, ColoradoThe Patriots opt to take the best player in the 2025 NFL Draft rather than trading down. Travis Hunter is a generational talent capable of excelling as either a game-breaking wide receiver or a lockdown cornerback. Pairing him with Christian Gonzalez could give New England one of the league's top young cornerback tandems.

Round 2, Pick 36: Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio StateOffensive tackle is a top priority for New England, but with no tackle worth a top-five selection, they address the need in the second round. Ohio State’s Josh Simmons is an athletic left tackle who could replace Vederian Lowe and significantly bolster the line. Round 3, Pick 67: Tate Ratledge, OG, GeorgiaThe Patriots continue to invest in the offensive line by selecting Georgia All-American Tate Ratledge. Ratledge has allowed just two sacks during his five-year college career and should help upgrade a unit that currently allows 3.2 sacks per game. It is April, and the 2025 NFL Draft is just a few weeks away! What is going to happen in the first round?

We take a look at another 2025 NFL Mock Draft to see where top prospects like Cam Ward, Travis Hunter, and Abdul Carter fall. The Titans keep number 1 and go with Cam Ward to start our latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft. The Browns get an elite edge rusher, while the Patriots add one of the most versatile prospects in recent memory. The Titans have been impressed with Cam Ward during his workouts, and we think it’s enough to keep the No. 1 pick and select him at the top of the draft. Ward can make all the throws and has shown he is very good at moving around in the pocket to extend plays.

He is patient and excels at throwing over the middle. If the Titans hang on to the top pick and select Cam Ward, the Browns will probably go with Abdul Carter to add an elite edge rusher to team up with Myles Garrett. While Cleveland needs a quarterback, they don’t seem to be sold on Shedeur Sanders and likely wouldn’t give up assets to move up to No. 1 to ensure it gets Ward. They settle for Carter, which is a huge win because he’s an outstanding pass rusher with elite initial quickness. The Giants added quarterbacks Russell Wilson (1-year deal) and Jameis Winston (2-year deal) in free agency and will be using Wilson primarily to help transition to the quarterback they take in the 2025 Draft.

With Cam Ward going No. 1, the Giants select Shedeur Sanders from Colorado and allow Wilson to play while Sanders gets comfortable. It will take some of the pressure off of Sanders, who improved his touch and downfield accuracy last season. NFL comparisons come with any pre-draft evaluation of prospects. The 2025 class is no exception, regardless of position. Likening players entering the league to players already in the league gives a better understanding of what kind of talent a team will get — good or bad.

From floor to ceiling, here's looking at Sporting News' first-round projections based on NFL veterans past and present: The Titans are hoping they finally have their second coming off the best QB in franchise history, Steve McNair, as Ward's size, arm strength, and mobility have some recalling their late one-time MVP. Other big mobile types, such as Ben Roethlisberger and Daunte Culpepper, have been thrown out as Ward comps, but in the modern game, Ward has a high ceiling, to the point he can push... Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado (6-1, 212 pounds)
