After that, things can be pretty wide open and fans of all 32 teams are meticulously combing through the latest mock drafts to get some clues as to what their favorite franchise will do... On April 16, one of the most respected evaluators in NFL draft coverage, The Athletic's Dane Brugler, released a seven-round mock draft of all 257 picks. It's a lot to get through so here are some takeaways from his latest predictions:

More than one draft expert has said the draft really starts at No. 9 given how many conflicting opinions are floating around about what the Saints may do on draft day. Will they draft a quarterback? Could they get involved with a trade?

It's anyone's guess. What's clear is Kellen Moore has work cut out for him. The Athletic's Dane Brugler is one of the best in the business at gathering information on the draft circuit and predicting how teams will move, and he shared a look at how this year's... Let's grade his work and see if he got it right for New Orleans. McMillan might turn out to be a great pro. He would certainly fill a need in New Orleans as a big-bodied playmaker at wide receiver, where the team has stacked up a bunch of guys who measure at or around 6-foot-flat, 190 pounds.

But McMillan hasn't had the greatest pre-draft process. He didn't show exceptional speed for his size in workouts. Questions about his commitment to his craft have dogged him since a poor response in a several-years-old podcast interview surfaced. You'd like to make a safer pick here, but if McMillan meets his potential, nobody is criticizing the Saints for drafting him. We're all being gaslit into thinking Shough could be a first-round pick; despite his poor college production, his injury history, his age, and the fact he might be too tall for the NFL, teams... Just like Will Levis, Drew Lock, Paxton Lynch, and Brock Osweiller before him.

Shough threw his first pass in college football back in 2018 and still has a lot to work on now. If Kellen Moore is convinced he's the guy, he'll have every opportunity to succeed, but I don't see it. I'd rather roll the dice on Quinn Ewers or Kyle McCord a round or two later. This is a great value pick; Williams is one of the draft's better run-stopping corners, and he peaked at the right time with an FBS-leading seven interceptions last season. And like Brugler pointed out, he spent the last two years playing for Saints linebackers coach Peter Sirmon, Cal's former defensive coordinator. Finding someone who can compete for a starting job at such an important position this late in the draft is a good move.

After I finish up “The Beast,” my attention shifts to a complete seven-round mock draft. It’s a time-exhaustive task, but I also see it as a helpful thought exercise to focus on team needs, draft trends and fits for all 32 organizations. It became clear at the combine that Ward would be the No. 1 pick.

The only question: Would the Titans trade out or stick and pick themselves?
