Yankees Aaron Judge Wins Al Mvp For 3rd Time In 4 Years
Aaron Judge put forth yet another magnificent season for the Yankees in 2025, and he’s been rewarded with his third AL MVP award. Despite fierce competition in the form of Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, Judge earned his second consecutive MVP and third of his career. The New York superstar hit 53 home runs and led the league in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, OPS, and OPS+. His 137 runs also ranked first in MLB. Judge’s efforts helped lead the Yankees to a 94–68 regular season. New York advanced past the wild card round by beating the rival Red Sox in three games, but fell to the Blue Jays in the divisional round.
The 33-year-old slugger has been considered one of the best hitters in baseball for years now and this season proved no exception. For much of the season he was the primary, and occasionally only, source of offense for the pinstripes. He was so dangerous that, in addition to all his league-leading hitting stats, he also ranked first in intentional walks with 36. Judge was rewarded earlier this year for his efforts with his seventh All-Star nod. What’s more, Judge shook off whatever remained of the perception that he struggled in postseason baseball with a strong playoff run. The Yankees’ slugger batted .364 against Boston in the wild-card round and .600 against Toronto in the divisional, totaling 13 hits and seven RBIs in seven games played.
It wasn’t enough to push the Yankees over the finish line and return to the World Series but there’s no question Judge delivered upon the promises of another great regular season. For months, fans and pundits alike wondered who would win the American League Most Valuable Player Award. Would the honor go to New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge for the third time in four years after another extraordinary offensive season, or would it go to Seattle Mariners switch-hitting catcher Cal... On Thursday, voters narrowly chose Judge, who continued to cement his place among baseball’s all-time greats by becoming the 13th player to win three or more MVPs. He joins Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle as the only Yankees to have accomplished the feat. Judge received 17 of the 30 first-place votes and 13 second-place votes.
Raleigh received the other 13 first-place votes while finishing second on the other 17 ballots. If two writers had flipped their votes to Raleigh, it would have been a tie. It was the closest vote for an MVP since the Angels’ Mike Trout topped Houston’s Alex Bregman by 17-13 in first-place votes in 2019. The 33-year-old Judge, who also won the AL award in 2022 and 2024, led the majors with a .331 batting average and 1.144 OPS while hitting 53 homers. LAS VEGAS — New York Yankees star Aaron Judge, who led MLB in batting average while hitting 53 home runs, beat the Seattle Mariners’ Cal Raleigh in a close vote to win his third... Judge netted 17 first-place votes and 355 points to edge Raleigh, who garnered 13 first-place votes and 335 points, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America announced Thursday night. The Cleveland Guardians’ José Ramírez (224 points) finished third. Judge’s across-the-board offensive dominance in leading the Yankees to a tie for the AL’s best record won out over whispers of voter fatigue amid a historic season from Raleigh, whose 60 home runs were... 11. Credit: Jim McIsaac The better player. The better season. In the end, it was that simple reasoning that landed Yankees captain Aaron Judge the 2025 American League Most Valuable Player award. There was an abundance of theories about why Seattle’s Cal Raleigh could be selected as the AL MVP over Judge.
He hit seven more home runs, and his 60 were the most ever by a catcher. He surpassed Mickey Mantle’s record of 54 home runs by a switch hitter. A catcher plays a more important role in a team’s success than an outfielder or a designated hitter does. But no sort of mental gymnastics was going to get away from the sober reality that Judge was the better player and had the better season. “I never came into this game chasing awards, chasing anything besides getting the chance to win and leave this game better than I found it,” Judge said on a conference call after the award... “If I would have won by one vote — if I would have won by 20 votes — that didn’t matter in my eyes.
Or if I lost, it’s just amazing. Getting into this opportunity? Man, you get one life, and getting a chance to experience these things is pretty special.” For months, debate has swirled about the American League Most Valuable Player Award. Would the honor go to New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge for the third time in four years after another extraordinary offensive season, or would it go to Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh,... The top five vote-getters for the American League Most Valuable Player Award in balloting conducted by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
On Thursday, voters narrowly chose Judge, who continued to cement his place among baseball's all-time greats by becoming the 13th player to win three or more MVPs. He joins Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio and Mickey Mantle as the only Yankees to have accomplished the feat. The vote from the Baseball Writers' Association of America was one of the closest in years. Judge received 17 of the 30 first-place votes and 13 second-place votes. Raleigh received the other 13 first-place votes while finishing second on the other 17 ballots. The New York Yankees captain captured his third American League MVP Award on Thursday, edging Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh in a tight race that pitted overall hitting vs.
defensive prowess in 2025. Judge beat Raleigh 355 to 335 in overall voting points. He had 17 first-place votes compared to 13 for Raleigh. The vote was the closest for an MVP since the Angels’ Mike Trout topped Houston’s Alex Bregman by 17-13 in 2019. Judge batted .331 with 53 homers, 114 RBIs and a major league-leading 1.145 OPS in 152 games with New York. The 33-year-old was also voted MVP in 2022 and 2024.
Judge’s win further cements a legacy likely bound for Cooperstown, three years after setting the AL home run record with 62 blasts in 2022. He is the Yankees’ fourth three-time winner. Raleigh, a switch-hitting catcher, led the majors with 60 homers during the regular season. He batted .247.
