Winners And Losers From The Seahawks Thrashing Of The Commanders
Losers? The only losers were the Commanders and anyone who saw it fit to pick the Commanders to win! If you wanted the Seattle Seahawks to make a big statement on Sunday night, you got it and then some. The Seattle Seahawks smashing up the New Orleans Saints in Week 3 was fun but the Saints are an atrocious team. I know the Washington Commanders are not a very good team, but to go on the road and pummel them when their backs are ostensibly up against the wall in terms of playoff hopes? This was a massive victory out of the bye, and there’s every reason to believe Seattle is a playoff contender.
Let’s get to Winners and Losers after a 38-14 victory that was not nearly as close as the final score indicated. His first half was true perfection. No, literally. He was 16/16 for 282 yards and 4 touchdowns. Sam was only 5/8 for 48 yards and an interception after halftime, which is evidence that the decision by Mike Macdonald to bench him for Drew Lock was wholly justified. In all seriousness, Darnold was in a zone all night and playing like an elite quarterback. Not a good quarterback. Not a great quarterback. An elite quarterback.
Even if he isn’t an elite quarterback every week, the Seahawks can be a Super Bowl caliber team with how he’s performing right now. This was the last chance saloon for the Washington Commanders if they wanted to keep their slim hopes of reaching the playoffs alive. Not for the first time this season, their Week 9 beatdown by the Seattle Seahawks was an unmitigated disaster from start to finish. More injuries — one to Washington's franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels — will generate the headlines. But the simple fact of the matter is that the Commanders were not ready to play. They were sluggish, mistake-ridden, and unable to cope with the Seahawks' firepower on both sides of the football.
That's a dangerous mix, and the Commanders are 3-6 for a reason. This is not the same team that took the NFL by storm in 2024. Everything is different, and it now looks like last season's meteoric rise was an anomaly rather than the start of a profitable new era. General manager Adam Peters has some big decisions to make over the next couple of days before the 2025 trade deadline. After this latest capitulation, don't be surprised if the Commanders look to sell off deadwood in their quest to put themselves in a better position when the offseason arrives. That's for the not-too-distant future.
For now, here are two winners and five losers from the Commanders' embarrassing blowout to the Seahawks. It feels like at least once a season the NFL throws a week out there that makes you stop and wonder what exactly you spent seven hours watching on Sunday. Week 10 certainly fits the bill this year, as a lot of assumptions about what we thought we knew entering the weekend were thrown out the window thanks to a slew of chaotic upsets... Let's attempt to sort through the madness and figure out who were the big winners and losers from Week 10's Sunday slate. In a week where there were big questions about the Colts' viability as AFC contenders, Jonathan Taylor offered a firm reminder of what Indianapolis can be if they can execute their game plan. A very fun International Series game in Germany served as a showcase for Taylor, who ripped off 244 yards rushing and three touchdowns as the Colts won an overtime thriller 31-25 over the Falcons.After...
In a year where there doesn't seem to be a runaway quarterback to claim MVP honors, Taylor is presenting a strong case if the Colts can win double-digit games and grab the AFC South... There was certainly trap potential for the Bills after an emotional performance to beat Kansas City in Week 9, but no one expected Buffalo to lay an egg in a 30-13 loss to a... The offensive line was a huge letdown for Buffalo, failing to open enough running lanes for James Cook and letting Josh Allen take a beating against a Dolphins pass rush sans the recently traded... The Bills run defense was gashed by De'Von Achane as they picked up a second division loss, making their chances of defending the AFC East crown much harder as New England improved to 8-2... Apart from Liam Coen (whom we'll get to in a minute), coaches in their first year with their new teams went undefeated on Sunday. While Mike Vrabel continued to bolster his case for Coach of the Year with the Patriots off to an 8-2 start, three true rookie head coaches earned victories as well: Chicago's Ben Johnson, New...
Chicago is now 6-3 on the season and very much alive for a playoff berth in a highly competitive NFC. When the Houston Texans declared C.J. Stroud out with a concussion, it looked like a clear path opened for Jacksonville to score a big division win to keep pace with the Colts in the AFC South. The Jaguars did their job for three quarters, building a 29-10 lead that looked insurmountable, but everything came undone as Houston rallied for an improbable 36-29 victory. While the defense came unglued in the fourth... That formula makes comebacks possible, and the Jaguars are going to regret this one if they end up missing the postseason. NFL Week 11 winners and losers: Bills pass Bucs test, Chiefs drop to 5-5 originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
Sunday’s NFL Week 11 slate got up and running early in Spain. The Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders fought in a low-scoring affair inside Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu, with the game being decided in overtime. Then the real early window featured seven games, with the Buffalo Bills hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Jacksonville Jaguars welcoming the Los Angeles Chargers, among others. In the late window, a new team reached 9-2 while two NFC West matches brought more clarity to a tight-knit division. A Week 10 slate full of heavyweight matchups across the NFL didn't exactly deliver many classic games, well, unless you're a Texans or Bears fan. However, there was a lot to learn from some very consequential results across the league on Sunday and Monday night.
The Patriots and Ravens stole the show in the morning slate on Sunday with impressive wins over quality teams, but nobody stacked up to the NFC contenders that took over in the afternoon. The Rams, Seahawks and Lions all dominated the afternoon slate, setting themselves up as the NFC's biggest contenders. Those three teams headline the list of biggest winners from Week 10, along with a new addition to the MVP race. For the second consecutive week, the Seahawks took a 28-0 lead in the first half against an NFC foe. Yes, you read that right. Seattle jumped all over Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals, who clearly took some time to get adjusted to playing an opponent that wasn't the Dallas Cowboys defense.
Sam Darnold wasn't asked to do much, as Seattle got two defensive touchdowns from DeMarcus Lawrence in the first half to jump out to that huge lead. However, his season-long numbers are still as good as it gets. Darnold leads the NFL in both EPA per dropback and completion percentage over expected, as he constantly has been able to fit the ball into tight windows down the field. Jaxson Smith-Njigba is still on a record-setting pace at wide receiver, making this offense very hard to stop. The Seattle Seahawks are 6-3 heading into a winnable game in Week 11 against the Los Angeles Rams. Of course, the Rams stomped the Seahawks in Week 1.
So, you know, anything can happen. At least Week 10 was a victory for Seattle. The team dominated the Washington Commanders statistically for much of the game but could never separate much where it mattered most: The scoreboard. But after Week 9's meltdown against the Baltimore Ravens, Seattle will take a win any way it can get it. On the list of winners and losers from Week 10 I don't have kicker Jason Myers. But maybe I should as Myers made all five of his field goals, including the game-winning kick.
Since Week 3, Myers has made 17 of his 18 field goal tries. But here are some other winners and losers from Seattle's 29-26 victory over the Commanders. Lots of fans and websites (including ours) have recently had issues with DK Metcalf's attitude toward picking up 15-yard penalties over the past several years. Metcalf has more penalties for unnecessary roughness, taunting, and unsportsmanlike conduct than any player in the NFL since 2020. That's the bad of DK Metcalf. But the good of Metcalf can far outweigh the bad and he proved that late in Week 10.
In the first half, quarterback Geno Smith seemed to want to force the ball to Metcalf. This has been a common occurrence over the last few weeks. I see the point of that, of course, as Metcalf needs the ball in his hands to do any damage. Smith throwing the ball, especially on third downs that might be picked up by targeting a different receiver, to a not-open Metcalf isn't Metcalf's fault; It's Smith's. The halfway point of the 2025 NFL season and its trade deadline are fading in the rearview mirror. It's now or nothing as teams fully establish who they are and what direction they're heading.
Case in point, the New England Patriots again find themselves among the NFL's elite. Meanwhile, the New York Jets are already looking toward the future after another lost season. The two squads met Thursday, with an obvious outcome. Bleacher Report's team of NFL analysts—Brent Sobleski, Gary Davenport, Kristopher Knox and Moe Moton—will provide the best and worst from all the league's latest action. .css-1582m2i{margin:0;font:inherit;font-weight:700;}Score: New England 27, New York 14 Patriots Takeaway: Drake Maye Is Not the MVP, But His Play Makes New England Elite
