The FBI director posted during Kirk’s memorial service. During Charlie Kirk's memorial service on Sunday, FBI Director Kash Patel posted an update on the investigation of Kirk's assassination, saying the FBI is "pursuing every lead." Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested and charged with Kirk's murder, but Patel said the FBI is looking into the "possibility of accomplices." Patel made similar assertions during two days of House and Senate oversight hearings last week. FBI Director Kash Patel's activities during the investigation of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination raise questions about his decision-making during a crisis, four former FBI officials and two administration officials told NBC News.
From the shooting Wednesday to a suspect's arrest Friday, Patel took steps that gave pause to some federal and local officials and raised questions about his judgment, the sources said. Several spoke on the condition of anonymity, some because they were not authorized to speak publicly and others citing fear of retaliation from the Trump administration. Those actions ranged from where Patel was on the evening of the assassination to what a former official described as his "grandstanding" about his own role after the arrest. "He has heard concerns about how this looks," an administration official said in a statement. "There are a lot of shaking heads." In an interview on "Fox & Friends" on Monday, Patel defended his handling of the investigation, including social media posts he made the day of the shooting.

Patel will appear before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday for more questions. A heated exchange erupted between Sen. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, and Patel when Schiff questioned Patel about FBI terminations and the Epstein files.
Schiff asked whether Patel ever terminated or disciplined an FBI employee because they were assigned to or worked on an investigation into Mr. Trump or the Jan. 6, 2021, attack. Hours after Kirk was shot at a university event in Orem, Utah, on Sept. 10, Patel announced on social media that the FBI had “the subject” in custody, prompting widespread reports that authorities had arrested a suspect. At the time the post was made, however, Tyler Robinson, the man suspected of shooting Kirk, had not yet turned himself into authorities, which he ultimately did following a 33-hour manhunt. The governor of Utah stated in a press conference shortly after Patel’s post that the person in custody was a person of interest and the gunman was still believed to be “at large,” and... NBC News reported, citing a person familiar, that Patel dined at the exclusive New York City restaurant Rao’s that night. The FBI director has defended his post, saying during an interview with “Fox and Friends” that he “was being transparent with working with the public on our findings as I had them.”
The Washington Examiner concludes its live coverage of FBI Director Kash Patel and former CDC Director Susan Monarez’s congressional hearings. FBI Director Kash Patel defended his leadership during a combative appearance before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, fielding sharp criticism from both parties. The nearly five-hour hearing saw Patel pressed on a wide range of issues, from the FBI’s refusal to release full witness statements in the Jeffrey Epstein case, to the rise in political violence after... Lawmakers also clashed over allegations pushed by Democrats about an alleged cover-up involving Trump’s ties to Epstein, whether more information is coming about the bureau’s use of informants on Jan. 6, and whether the FBI is responding evenly to extremist threats from both the Right and the Left. The House Judiciary Committee voted to table, or reject, multiple motions related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, including one to investigate Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
