The new research collaboration was announced at the inaugural SUNY AI Symposium at ETEC, which convened leading AI researchers from across SUNY and featured a keynote address by Mukesh V. Khare, GM, IBM Semiconductors and VP, Hybrid Cloud at IBM Research.

Speaking at UAlbany, Hochul said the investment will fund a new Center for Emerging Artificial Intelligence Systems (CEAIS) and create the SUNY AI Research Group. The center will prioritize new AI research projects using advanced cloud computing and new hardware production from the IBM Research AI Hardware Center created in 2019. The SUNY AI Research Group will have 60 members and will focus on AI use in data privacy and security, education, research and infrastructure and workforce development.
