Newsweek reached out to the FBI for comment via email on Monday afternoon. The alleged messages from Robinson come as federal officials have yet to file a criminal complaint outlining his alleged actions leading up to Kirk's death last Wednesday. The suspect's online activities, political views, and personal life continue to be scrutinized and speculated upon, with an official motive remaining unknown. Tyler Robinson was arrested roughly 33 hours after Charlie Kirk was shot dead. In that time, he is said to have sent a number of messages to a Discord group chat, talking about the incident.
The chat is said to have had around 20 people in it. In the messages, one person pointed out Tyler Robinson had a resemblance to the person in FBI released CCTV pictures when the suspect was first shared as a “person of interest”. Following this, Robinson is said to have joked his “doppelgänger” was trying to “get me in trouble”. Rep. Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk, confessed to friends in a private Discord chat hours before his arrest, according to The Washington Post. "Hey guys, I have bad news for you all," read the message sent from an account identified as the suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson, as quoted by The Washington Post. According to the report, screenshots shared by members of the chat showed Robinson admitting to killing Kirk. "It was me at UVU yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this," he wrote on Thursday night. The message ended with Robinson thanking his online friends "for all the good times and laughs" and was sent about two hours before his arrest.
Discord said it gave a copy of the message to authorities and is cooperating with the FBI and investigators by providing details of Robinson’s online activity, reported The Washington Post.
