Hunter is the face of college football, and his exploits at both wide receiver and cornerback have earned him a reputation as a potential all-time great. The Buffaloes football program — in spite of its 4-8 record in 2023 — quickly became a source of media frenzy. Head coach Deion “Prime” Sanders and quarterback Shedeur Sanders bear some responsibility for this, but Hunter is the star. Hunter was Prime’s prized recruiting victory in the NFL Hall of Famer’s time at Jackson State, but the elder Sanders had to fight to get him. Hunter shocked the nation when he flipped from the Florida State Seminoles to Deion Sanders’ Jackson State Tigers as the No. 1 recruit in the 2022 class. He flashed his potential in his true freshman season but began to come into his own once he followed Coach Prime to Boulder, Colo. We know he is a future first-rounder, but the question is: at what position? The answer is yes.

However, teams won’t allow one of their star players to see 100+ snaps in a single game. Instead, I expect him to be drafted and play full-time as a game-breaking CB while having a 10-20 snap offensive package as a WR. No player in college football had done what Travis Hunter did at Colorado in 2023 and 2024. Coming from Jackson State with Deion and Shadeur Sanders in 2023, he helped transform the program at Colorado.

Hunter capped off his college career with a Heisman and helped his team go bowling twice, which they did for the first time since 2016. Hunter shaped Colorado football, and he can do the same for a team picking early in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hunter arrived at Jackson State in 2022 and immediately helped bring awareness to HBCUs by making history as the first five-star high school prospect to play for one. He and the father-son combination of Deion and Shedeur Sanders helped the Tigers win the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2022, Hunter’s freshman year. It was after the 2022 season that Deion Sanders took the Colorado job, and both Shedeur and Hunter followed him. Hunter made an immediate impact at Colorado, earning All-America honors as the top All-purpose player in the country as a sophomore.

The next year, Hunter shined, helping Colorado win eight games and within a game of playing for the Big 12. As a Junior, Hunter took home the Heisman for his contributions as a receiver and cornerback for Colorado. Hunter also was awarded both the Bednarik Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy in 2024, honoring his impact as a defensive player. He did it all while playing an exceptional amount of snaps at two positions. Hunter’s skills were maximized by good coaching at Colorado, offering promise at the next level. Especially in the right scheme, he could become an all-time great in the NFL.

Predictively, I expect Colorado’s Travis Hunter to play cornerback in the NFL. He still ranks as my top wide receiver prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft. Hunter’s rare athleticism, route running, and separation skills combine with his otherworldly ball tracking and control to make him a passing attack’s potential top option. Hunter originally committed to Florida State before flipping to Jacksonville State. He transferred from Jacksonville State to Colorado for the 2023 season. Hunter lettered four times in high school as Collins Hill went 36-17 during his time with the program. Across his career, he caught 272 passes for 3,963 yards and 48 touchdowns, rushed 29 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns, and passed for three touchdowns and two interceptions. His 48 receiving touchdowns broke the Georgia state record. Hunter totaled 116 tackles, four tackles for loss, 19 interceptions, 18 passes defensed, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries throughout his career on defense.

As a senior, Hunter led Collins Hill to a 15-1 record and the Georgia 7A State Championship. Despite missing five games, he amassed 85 receptions for 1,284 yards and 12 touchdowns on offense and 25 tackles, two tackles for loss, four interceptions, five passes defensed, a forced fumble, and two fumble... Hunter was the 2021 Georgia Player of the Year for both MaxPreps and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was also a First Team All-American for MaxPreps. As a junior, he helped Collins Hill go 12-3 and appear in the State Championship Game. Hunter made 137 receptions for 1,746 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing 19 times for 124 yards and one touchdown.

He also passed for 84 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Hunter set Gwinnett County records for receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. He also contributed 51 tackles, a tackle for loss, eight interceptions, seven passes defensed, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery on his way to earning MaxPreps Junior of the Year and MaxPreps Junior...
