Todd Mcshay Releases Mid Season 2026 Nfl Mock Draft The Spun
The New York Giants are heading toward a top 5 selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. With 5½ months before GM Joe Schoen, if he still has that role, is on the clock draft analyst Todd McShay has already hit on the perfect move for the Giants next April. In a newly-released mock draft via his ‘McShay Report’ newsletter, McShay has the Giants trading down one spot from No. 3 to No. 4. McShay used that pick to select Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, but that is almost irrelevant at this point.
The important part is the trade down. With Jaxson Dart in place, the Giants do not need to draft a quarterback. They absolutely need to take advantage of that finding a team that does, and accumulating as much draft capital to help build their roster as they possibly can. In his mock, McShay finds the perfect partner. He has the Giants move down one spot, swapping picks with the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland uses that pick to select Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.
Noteworthy, but irrelevant to our discussion. McShay does not list the terms of the trade with the Browns. Cleveland, though, also possesses a second first-round pick, No. 19 overall. If I am the Giants GM in this spot, that is my asking price. The classic Jimmy Johnson trade chart says Cleveland’s second-round pick, No.
38, is appropriate value, but I would still try to squeeze the Browns for No. 19 in this spot. They won’t be the only bidder for the third pick in this scenario. The NFL has passed the halfway point of the season, now entering Week 10. With that, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. and Field Yates have come together to conduct their first live, joint mock going into the 2026 NFL Draft.
Kiper and Yates went through that process on ‘First Draft’ on Wednesday, with the mock hosted by Mike Greenberg. With a projected order, the two draft experts alternated picks with Yates making the odd-numbered selections while Kiper made the even ones. Here were the results of that draft completed by Kiper and Yates: The Saints selected a quarterback just a year ago in the second round in Tyler Shough, and also still have another quarterback they’ve drafted in Spencer Rattler. However, Yates had New Orleans going with another one with the No. 1 pick in 2026, choosing Mendoza, who is having a career-best season at IU with 72.3% completion for 236 passing yards per game, 25 touchdowns, and only four picks, at first overall.
“I have some conviction on this pick being a quarterback. My top-graded quarterback, so far, at this juncture of the college football season, remains Fernando Mendoza, quarterback from the University of Indiana,” Yates said. “We have talked at length about the skill set that he brings to the table – superior accuracy, excellent arm strength, has some mobility as well…A quarterback race that I think was three players,... The standings look a lot different compared to a month ago, and a handful of top 2026 draft prospects have either enhanced or decreased their stock. So, how would the first round play out if the draft were held today? Let’s dive into our latest 2026 NFL first-round mock draft. The race for the top quarterback selected is as wide open as we’ve ever seen it. Mendoza has a slight edge over the others RIGHT NOW, but LaNorris Sellers, Dante Moore, Carson Beck, and Garrett Nussmeier have something to say as well. The one virtual certainty is that the Jets will select a quarterback with their first-round pick.
He’d have a couple of nice building blocks here with Garrett Wilson and Armand Membou, with plenty more room to add. The 2025 NFL Draft is officially in the books, but the experts are already turning their attention toward next year. On Monday, NFL Draft expert Todd McShay released the first edition of his way-too-early 2026 mock draft, with some of the biggest names returning to college football next season going near the top. Among the projections for McShay include six Clemson Tigers going in Round 1, which would tie the record for the most players taken from one school in a single round of one draft in... Alabama had the second most players in the mock with four, while the Miami Hurricanes and Ohio State Buckeyes each had three. There were also some notable players missing from his mock draft, including Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning, who many believe could be the No.
1 overall pick should he come out. That said, the wide consensus is that he will return to school and wait until the 2027 draft to realize his NFL dream. The NFL Draft concluding in late April every year means it’s time for one of the most consistently useless pieces of content to be released immediately after: the way-too-early Mock Draft for next year. It will almost certainly be incorrect. Never forget the year that NFL Draft Scout Matt Miller, now with ESPN, projected Jake Fromm to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 Draft, for example.
