(AP Photo/George Walker IV) You can take a quarterback first overall, but you can’t expect to finish in first place immediately. That’s precisely what PFSN predicts the Tennessee Titans will do in 2025.
The Titans grabbed what they think is the most critical piece of any rebuild: a top-flight quarterback in Cam Ward. The problem is that they need to build everything else up around him. Let’s start with the second most crucial part of a rebuild: the offensive line. Tennessee’s O-line was one of the worst in the NFL last season, ranking last or near-last in pass-block win rate and run-blocking grades. They signed guard Dan Moore Jr. to a four-year, $82 million deal, but he allowed 12 sacks in 2024.
JC Latham is returning to his natural right tackle position, and Peter Skoronski is at left guard. Lloyd Cushenberry is recovering from a torn Achilles tendon, and his availability is questionable. Things don’t get much better at the skill positions. Neither Will Levis, Brandon Allen, nor Tim Boyle will push Ward for the starting spot at quarterback. Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears are solid but unspectacular running backs who will be running behind a patchwork line. The Tennessee Titans are opening the 2025 season with hope that they’ve finally found their quarterback of the future.
After finishing last season with the league’s worst record, the Titans earned the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. They used that pick on Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward. Ward is now preparing to make his first career NFL start against the Denver Broncos in Week 1. While there’s optimism that this year will be better than last season’s 3-14 finish, it’s just as possible Tennessee could be looking at another top-five pick in next year’s draft. That’s what The Sporting News’ Anthony Licciardi predicts, projecting the Titans to select No.
4 overall — a pick that would reunite Ward with his former Miami teammate, edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. “Bain came into the year having to answer questions about last year’s injury. He answered them against an elite Notre Dame offense,” Licciardi wrote. “He was arguably the best player on the field and one of the strongest performers from the first full week of collegiate action. The Tennessee Titans' 2025 season is officially over. The Titans finished with a record of 3-14 and, for most of the year, it felt as though Tennessee would potentially finish as the worst team and hold the number one pick for the...
The Titans showed some fight in the second half of the season though and now they won't have that number one pick. That part is unfortunate, as, no, the Titans wouldn't have stayed in that spot but they could have added more draft capital by trading out of the spot. The good news is that will Tennessee will still have a pretty high draft pick in April. Hopefully Mike Borgonzi can zero in on someone with that pick who can help get this team out of the AFC South basement and turn them into a competent squad in 2026 and beyond. Here's what the draft order looks like now that the season is over, per Tankathon: The Titans officially will hold the fourth overall pick in April's draft after the Jets and Cardinals lost their Week 18 games.
They had the same record as the teams with the top three picks but lost out on being higher up in the draft order due to strength of schedule. 1 NFL Draft pick is the latest in a growing trend — top QB picks enduring major coaching changes early in their careers. In total, the last four quarterbacks taken at No. 1 — Ward, Caleb Williams with the Chicago Bears in 2024, Bryce Young with the Carolina Panthers in 2023 and Trevor Lawrence with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021 — have seen their coaches fired... Quarterbacks taken first are brought in as supposed franchise-altering forces. Yet, in recent memory, that alteration has come with quicker collateral damage than sustained success. (AP Photo/Matt Ludtke) NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Titans hope picking a quarterback in the first round for the third time in 15 NFL drafts proves to be the charm. 1 overall selection Thursday night after turning down trade offers throughout the draft process. “I just think that if you identify a franchise quarterback, there’s really not a price you can pay for that in my mind,” said new Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi, who was part of... The Tennessee Titans have a new quarterback in Cam Ward, who should go a long way in helping rebuild the franchise. Ward is expected to lead the Titans offense from the jump in his rookie season, but his presence won't immediately turn things around for the team. Yahoo! Sports acknowledges that more players will need to help the Titans get better in the upcoming season.
"There's a long way to go and Ward won't fix all of that. There were a few bright spots on the roster — Jeffery Simmons is a star on the defensive line, 2024 rookies DT T'Vondre Sweat and CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. had promising debuts, Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley had 1,000-yard seasons in a bad situation — but rebuilding will take a while. If Ward hits, at least that's a start," Yahoo! Sports wrote. Ward can help change the culture in the building right away, but that might not lead to an immediate fix in results.
