Find this story in your account’s ‘Saved for Later’ section. Remember Project 2025, the deeply unpopular far-right governing plan that Donald Trump spent the entire 2024 election pretending to know nothing about? Well, the president is bear-hugging it: On October 2, as the government shutdown entered its second day, Trump posted on Truth Social that he would be meeting with Office of Management and Budget director...
I have no idea who is behind it” — even though the playbook was written by more than 140 alumni of his first administration. In any case, Trump and his allies repeatedly cast people’s concerns around the plan’s authoritarian streak as hysterical. The media and serious political operators bought into his supposed “disavowal” of the playbook, too. That public-relations spin was clearly b.s. Many of Project 2025’s authors are now members of the current administration — including Vought, FCC chair Brendan Carr, White House border czar Tom Homan, and CIA director John Ratcliffe. And in just nine months, Trump has already accomplished 48 percent of the policies outlined in the playbook, according to an analysis by the Project 2025 Tracker.
You read that right! Trump is nearly halfway through establishing the governing plan that experts warned “would destroy the 250-year-old system of checks and balances upon which U.S. democracy has relied.” To break down just how far Project 2025 has come and what people can still do to stop it, I spoke with Michael Sozan, a senior fellow at the Center for... Here’s what they said. The 900-page behemoth, titled Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise, outlined policy proposals for major federal agencies. Its authors said Project 2025 would be a road map for the next conservative administration.
But Sozan says that, in reality, “It is almost an authoritarian guidebook for a president to be able to exercise almost complete control over the government.” He adds, “It gives the president and his... As of October 9, the Trump administration has already completed 119 of Project 2025’s 318 stated objectives, according to the data analysis conducted by Cobb and the tracker’s co-creators. Cobb says that 66 of the plan’s other goals are currently in progress. They fall into two categories: objectives where there has been some action, such as a draft proposal, that has yet to be implemented, as well as policies that have been blocked by the courts. This means that about 48 percent of Project 2025 has been completed. A new community-based resource, the Project 2025 Tracker is closely following the Trump administration’s work to accomplish the 312 objectives of Project 2025.
As of Monday, April 28: Many of these policies, enacted by executive order, are being challenged in court as exceeding the authority of the president. The tracker can be searched by agency, subject and completion status, and includes notes on how objectives have been achieved. In Trump’s first 100 days in office, he has enacted over one-quarter of Project 2025 policy recommendations eroding reproductive health and rights and is working on another 17 percent of these objectives. In the area of LGBTQIA rights, Trump has enacted over half of the Project 2025 policy objectives and is actively working to enact another 20 percent. President Donald Trump has enacted nearly half of Project 2025 during his first nine months in office, according to a tracker.
Newsweek reached out to the White House for comment via email. Project 2025, a 900-page blueprint developed by conservative groups to reshape the federal government, became a major topic during the 2024 presidential election. At the time, Trump sought to distance himself from it amid backlash over parts of the agenda. But critics have said many of the policies of his administration reflect Project 2025, and he touted Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought’s ties to the initiative in a Truth Social post... According to a Project 2025 tracker, a website created by two Reddit users who keep tabs on which aspects of the blueprint have been enacted by the Trump administration, Project 2025 is 48 percent... The U.S.
Agency for International Development—which the Trump administration has sought to dismantle, has been among the most affected entities. It has been subjected to budget cuts, the rescinding of policies addressing climate change and prohibition from funding “sexual reproductive health and reproductive rights” or “gender equality” programs, according to the tracker. President Donald Trump on the campaign trail last summer disavowed Project 2025, saying he knew nothing about the effort. But many of the conservative blueprint’s ideas have made their way into his early executive orders, signaling the sweeping impact the Heritage Foundation document has already had on the Trump administration’s policy making. A side-by-side review by POLITICO found dozens of cases where the president’s early executive actions have aligned with portions of the 922-page policy document, including some instances with nearly verbatim language lifted from the... Several of the ideas, such as energy policies expanding U.S.
oil and critical minerals production, are longtime conservative policy priorities that did not originate with Project 2025. But some of the more unconventional strategies outlined in the document, such as reclassifying federal employees to make them easier to fire and installing loyalists in senior government positions, have also shown up in... There have also been other Trump administration moves outside of his executive orders that appear to come directly from Project 2025, such as directing the Federal Communications Commission to investigate NPR and PBS for... The Center for Progressive Reform and Governing for Impact are monitoring the Trump administration’s implementation of Project 2025, tracking the authoritarian blueprint’s executive action proposals across 20 federal agencies. The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 is the conservative movement’s blueprint for weakening our government and building an authoritarian presidency. To monitor the Trump administration’s regulatory and other administrative actions toward that goal, and in partnership with Governing for Impact, we’re tracking Project 2025’s executive action proposals across 20 federal agencies. These actions will have devastating consequences for workers, the environment, public health, and the rights of millions of Americans. New resource will track hundreds of Project 2025 proposals, provide reporters and civil society groups data on the administration’s executive action agenda WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Governing for Impact (GFI) and the Center for Progressive Reform launched their joint Project 2025 Tracker to monitor the incoming Trump administration’s unilateral efforts to make the new infamous policy... Developed by the Heritage Foundation, Project 2025 provides a roadmap for the incoming administration to consolidate power in the presidency so that it can force through an ultra-right-wing agenda. The playbook proposes sweeping changes across 30 federal agencies that will have devastating consequences on workers, the environment, public health, and the rights of millions of Americans. “Despite wide media coverage of Project 2025, no centralized resource has been created to easily and comprehensively track its implementation, ” said Rachael Klarman, Executive Director of GFI. “GFI and CPR created the Project 2025 Tracker to close this gap, offering a vital resource for policymakers, legal experts, and advocates to monitor and respond to Trump administration actions. ” “As a candidate, Trump made his repeated disavowals of Project 2025 a key part of his pitch to Americans to vote for him.
That’s why the Center is committed to holding his administration accountable by closely tracking whether it lives up to this promise over the next four years,” said James Goodwin, Policy Director at the Center...
