He is also a multi-bestselling author. Let’s be honest: writing a book isn’t easy. It takes time, patience, and heart. And with all the AI tools popping up, I know it’s tempting to think, “Why not let something like ChatGPT handle this for me?” It sounds easy, right?

Just type in a few prompts, and suddenly, you’ve got pages of content. But here’s the hard truth: if you let AI write your book, you’re not telling your story. You’re letting a machine patch together sentences from places you can’t see, with no emotion, no soul, and no connection to the reader. I’ve spent years coaching authors, reviewing manuscripts, and helping people turn their ideas into something real, and I can spot AI writing in seconds. It’s not just the structure. It’s the lack of you.

If you’re serious about writing a book that matters, here’s why AI should never be the author of your story. When someone picks up your book, they’re looking for more than just information or words on a page. They want to feel something. They want to sit with your joy, cry with your heartbreak, and get angry or inspired right along with you. They want to hear your voice in every line. Do you think AI should play a role in writing your personal story?

Or is it important to keep the human touch when sharing your narrative? 🤖✍️ This article challenges the growing trend of using AI to write personal stories and books. It highlights why our authentic voices and human experiences should remain at the heart of storytelling, rather than letting robots take over the process. The key takeaway: Your story is too valuable to be written by a machine. The Day Your Content Died (And How Story Brought It Back) 😂 Remember when we used to write blog posts like instruction manuals? Step 1. Identify pain point. Step 2. Offer solution. Step 3.

Hope someone reads past Step 2. 🫨 Then AI came along and started doing that better than we did. The truth: information is now infinite. But emotion? Still rare. 🥸 Storytelling is differentiation.

It’s the human algorithm that decides whether people care, remember, or act. If your content sounds like it was written by a committee of cautious robots, it probably was. And your readers feel it. So, if you want to grow in the age of AI, don’t just inform. Perform. Make your reader feel something again.

I’ll always remember 2023 as the year when the manure hit the rotating blades with regard to AI-generated content. For the first time, AI chatbots showed that they could produce, on demand, sentences and paragraphs in response to a given prompt. To all appearances, robots were writing articles, verses, narratives—and doing it a lot faster than human authors. Some writers felt genuinely threatened. Was AI about to render human authorship obsolete? AI can beat humans on quantity of output, but can AI beat an experienced author on quality?

Is there any real qualitative difference between material written by humans and content produced by AI apps? AI is speedier; AI is relatively accurate in the basic mechanics of text—spelling, punctuation, grammar. Of course AI will continue to improve in what it can churn out. But is there any realistic prospect of AI “improving” to a point where it becomes indistinguishable from the work of creative writers? Maybe you can imagine it. I can’t.

Unlike other skills replaced by technology, storytelling has remained uniquely human, setting people apart from machines.

But now, even storytelling is being challenged. Artificial intelligence, powered by vast datasets, can generate stories that sometimes rival, or even surpass, those written by humans. If you’re a beginning writer or if you’ve been writing for years, there are many reasons why you should not use generative AI. I’ll outline a few here to hopefully discourage you from making this possibly career-ending mistake, because I do think that using generative AI to write stories could be a career killer, not just for... “But wait!” you say. “Writing can be free! I can take out a book from the library, and I don’t pay! And I don’t pay when I read a story online!” You might not pull out your credit card and exchange dollars when you visit a library or website, but there is definitely an exchange of value. You do pay for it, but the payment is implicit.

When I first encountered generative AI at a law seminar two years ago, I had the passing thought, as a novelist and critic, that it could actually be good for fiction written by humans... Just think: Machines would potentially standardize prose in a contemporary fiction landscape that already tends to value minimalist writing, and the ease with which robots might reproduce simple sentences and formulaic plots would mean... This optimism was quickly defeated by the realization that one of my day jobs, as a ghostwriter, would almost certainly become automated. The panic over products from OpenAI and other companies says more about our cultural moment than about the tech itself. At my mother’s house that evening here in Northern California, I ranted about this development in a society that already devalues art and the printed word. I preached about how ridiculous it was that artificial intelligence companies and startups were creating meaningless applications that reinforce layers of racial bias and leave a heavy carbon footprint, rather than investing that money...

My mother has had a long successful career in tech and remains involved in the field of AI. She’s one of the most moral and wise humans that I know. Unfazed by my argument, she said, thoughtfully, “Yes, ChatGPT will probably change things.” In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has made remarkable strides, transforming various fields, including writing. <img decoding="async" src="https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544.jpg" alt="" width="809" height="405" class="alignnone wp-image-4556 lazyload" srcset="https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544.jpg 1399w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-420x210.jpg 420w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-755x378.jpg 755w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-500x250.jpg 500w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-750x375.jpg 750w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-1000x500.jpg 1000w, https://www.fullcyclepublications.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/image5445754544-600x300.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 809px) 100vw, 809px" /><img... Advanced AI systems can now generate coherent and contextually relevant text, mimicking human writing styles with impressive accuracy.

From drafting news articles to creating fictional stories, AI’s capabilities have expanded, showcasing its potential to revolutionize the writing industry. These advancements have led to the development of sophisticated AI writing tools that can produce content quickly and efficiently, making them increasingly popular among writers and publishers. The growing trend of using AI to write manuscripts is undeniable, driven by its promise of saving time and effort. Many writers and content creators are turning to AI to draft, edit, and even complete their manuscripts. However, despite these capabilities, it is essential to recognize the inherent value of human authorship. Human creativity, emotional depth, and ethical considerations are irreplaceable elements of writing that AI cannot replicate.
