Stefon Diggs Reveals True Feelings On Drake Maye Josh Allen Comparison
We are pretty far-removed from the New England Patriots having to worry about finding the next Tom Brady or even coming up with an answer after the Mac Jones era seemed to flop. Now, the Patriots' franchise quarterback is truly cementing himself as "the guy," regardless of any past names who have come through the building. Drake Maye is here. He has arrived. He is the future of this franchise, and everybody in that locker room knows it. With a signature win over the division rival Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football, Maye continues to inspire belief not only within the fan base, but also among his closest teammates.
After the game on Monday night, wide receiver Stefon Diggs was asked about Maye and the comparison he's received to another one of his former quarterbacks, Josh Allen. Diggs acknowledged the comparison, but also offered some high, individual praise for his current quarterback. "I feel like it's a hell of a comparison to be compared to Josh Allen, but as you come into your own, Drake Maye has to be Drake Maye," Diggs told the media. Everyone knows the narrative surrounding Diggs before his arrival New England. Shoot, even as recently as this past summer, there were off-field questions surrounding the polarizing wideout. Four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs spoke briefly on the comparisons between New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Diggs, who signed a three-year deal with the Patriots, spent four years catching passes from Allen. He didn't compare the two quarterbacks from a skill perspective, but instead, he talked about hearing that both players had similar personalities. "I'm excited. I really look forward to [meeting Maye]," said Diggs. "It's crazy, because when you ask around, he has a lot of similarities, where people say, through the grapevine, he acts a lot like Josh. And that was my guy.
So I look forward to meeting him." There have been plenty of comparisons of Maye and Allen both on and off the field. One thing is certain: The Patriots would love to see Maye's talent ceiling reach the same level as Allen, a former NFL MVP. Adding Diggs to the mix at receiver could be the Patriots' first step at turning that dream into a reality. In his first game back in Buffalo as an opponent, Patriots’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs got his revenge in helping the Patriots hand the Bills their first loss of the season. New England shocked the Bills by getting the 23-20 victory and Diggs played a big role in helping the Pats pull the upset.
He and his new quarterback Drake Maye connected for 10 catches for 146 yards. Maye targeted him 12 times as well, making the statement that Diggs was going to be the go-to guy. While Diggs was very productive, he couldn’t have done it without Maye looking like the better quarterback in this game. Maye made some great throws, with a good amount of them going to Diggs and he had a little bit of Josh Allen-like plays in his game. Quite frankly, he looked better than Allen throughout the game. In just his second season, Maye has become a franchise quarterback and is showing that he can help bring the Patriots back to relevance, something that they haven’t experienced since Tom Brady left in...
After the Sunday night game, Diggs spoke with the media and talked about how Maye has been compared to Allen in his game, specifically that “It’s a hell of a comparison to be compared... But as you come into your own, Drake Maye has to be Drake Maye. I was just so proud of him, coming in here and leading a team" - Stefon Diggs per Patriots on CLNS of CLNS Media Boston Sports Network. Stefon Diggs has played with some top quarterbacks, and he thinks Drake Maye compares favorably to one of them. Diggs was interviewed by NBC’s Melissa Stark prior to the “Sunday Night Football” game between the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, N.Y. The game marked the return of Diggs against his former team, the Bills.
During his pregame interview with Stark, Diggs was asked to compare Maye and Josh Allen. He talked about what makes them similar. “The mindset, the energy, the want-to. You could see they always wanted to win. Drake has that approach each and every day,” Diggs said of his current quarterback. That’s a nice comparison considering Allen is a three-time Pro Bowl quarterback and the reigning NFL MVP.
If Diggs thinks Maye belongs in that category, that’s a great sign. Virtually no one thought the New England Patriots would be competitive this season. But five weeks in, they hold a 3-2 record and are coming off an eyebrow-raising 23-20 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Quarterback Drake Maye is slowly but surely looking like the franchise signal-caller the Patriots have been looking for ever since the legendary Tom Brady left following the 2019 season. While he didn't throw a single touchdown pass versus Buffalo, he completed 22 of 30 passing attempts and ended up with 273 passing yards and no interceptions. So far this year, Maye has completed 73.9% of his pass attempts, which is second in the NFL, and he has thrown for 1,261 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions, and he also has...
