LANDOVER, Md.—The Seahawks came out of their bye week firing on all cylinders, and the result was a dominant victory in prime time that improved their record to 6-2. The Seahawks beat the Washington commanders 38-14 after racing to a 28-0 lead in the first half, pulling away behind a dominant performance by quarterback Sam Darnold, another standout showing by the defense and... The win in the Seahawks 10th in a row on the road, adding to a franchise record, and it makes Mike Macdonald the third coach in NFL history to win 11 of his first... Here are seven rapid reactions to Sunday's win: It took quarterback Sam Darnold more than a half to throw an incomplete pass, and a related note, Michael Dickson didn't punt until the third quarter. Washington star quarterback Jayden Daniels exited with an injury late in the fourth quarter.

Nick Wass / The Associated Press The Washington Commanders needed a bounce-back win at the halfway point of the NFL season. Instead, they lost big during Week 9 — twice. In the midst of being routed at home, 38-14, Washington’s second-year star quarterback, Jayden Daniels, was injured after falling awkwardly midway through the fourth quarter while the game was no longer in doubt. His left, non-throwing arm, was immobilized and he walked off under his own power and received X-rays.

The Seattle Seahawks looked every bit the part of a Super Bowl contender on Sunday night in Maryland as they delivered a dominant performance on both sides of the football in a 38-14 blowout... Sam Darnold was a perfect 16-of-16 for 282 yards and four touchdowns in the first half alone as Seattle compiled 418 yards of total offense and averaged over eight yards a play.

Meanwhile, Seattle's defense completely shut down Jayden Daniels and the Washington offense before the Commanders' quarterback left the game midway through the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a gruesome left elbow injury. The victory keeps the Seahawks tied for the best record in the NFC at 6-2, and they have the second-best point differential in the conference at plus-81. LANDOVER, Md. (AP) Sam Darnold was in the type of groove a quarterback rarely experiences. “Someone at halftime said to me that I hadn't thrown an incompletion,” Darnold said. “So I think he's to blame for throwing an incompletion in the second half.”

Whether he believes in jinxes or not, Darnold couldn't feel too disappointed. By the time he threw his first incompletion of the game - early in the third quarter - he'd already tossed four touchdown passes. And his Seattle Seahawks were well on their way to a 38-14 rout of the Washington Commanders on Sunday night. Washington again lost Jayden Daniels to an injury. Daniels, the Commanders' second-year quarterback, left in the fourth quarter after his nonthrowing arm bent gruesomely while he was being tackled near the Seattle goal line. “Just thinking about him and what he's going through right now,” Darnold said after the game.

“I just wanted to say that.” Another night, another absurdly dominant performance from the Seattle Seahawks under the lights of prime time. Seattle handled the Houston Texans with relative ease last week on Monday Night Football, and they kept it rolling after the bye with an absolute pasting of the Washington Commanders in their own building... Seattle scored on all five first half possessions, going up 28-0 and then 31-7 at halftime. After two quarters, this was over. The Seahawks cruised to 6-2, and as such, there is plenty to talk about from this one.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy reading the top takeaways from Week 9.... spoiler alert, they are going to be mainly positive. This is not an exaggeration. Even last year, with his well-documented meltdowns against the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams to end the Vikings' season, he still received MVP votes. This time, if he keeps it up, his name is going to wind up on first place ballots. Darnold completed 21-of-24 passes for 330 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.

He was 16-for-16 in the first half alone, and tied Warren Moon's franchise record with 17-straight completions. Darnold was simply surgical, connecting with three different receivers - Tory Horton, Cody White, and Elijah Arroyo - for his scores. Keep in mind, for White and Arroyo, those were their first touchdowns of their career. I know Minnesota also won in Week 9, but you have to imagine the organization (and their fans) are wondering about the road not taken. Monster games for JSN are becoming the norm. Six times this year he has had over 100 receiving yards, out of eight possible opportunities.

On Sunday night, JSN had another eight receptions for 129 yards. Although he did not find the end zone, he achieved something far more valuable: more history. JSN just completed his fourth-straight game with at least 100 receiving yards, breaking a tie with Steve Largent for most ever by a Seahawks receiver in a single season. He also joined Isaac Bruce as the only two players in league history, 23 years old or younger, to have at least 900 receiving yards in their first eight games of a season. Jaxon Smith-Njigba continues to lead the NFL with 948 yards, which is ten more yards than what Bruce achieved in 1995. I cannot overstate how huge it is for the Seahawks that their special teams unit has gone from a critical liability to a key difference maker.

Special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh deserves a ton of credit for getting his unit into shape for 2025, as they have been game changers. After Seattle went up 14-0, the Commanders fumbled the ensuing kick off, which the Seahawks recovered. One play later, Sam Darnold found Elijah Arroyo to expand their lead to 21-0 and the route was officially on. Jason Myers tacked on a 41-yard goal before halftime as well, remaining solid on the season as well. Landover, MD - Sam Darnold had his best game as a Seahawk — and perhaps of his NFL career — tonight, throwing for over 300 yards in a cover-to-cover domination of the Washington Commanders. Darnold could do no wrong for the entirety of the first half, going a perfect 16 for 16 with four touchdowns.

Seattle star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba became the first ever Seahawk to collect at least 100 receiving yards in four consecutive games with a 129 yard performance. But it was rookies Tory Horton and Elijah Arroyo who got to cap off the drives, collecting three touchdowns between the pair of them. As usual, Mike Macdonald’s ironclad defense was able to shutdown the opposing offensive engines. Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, who unfortunately suffered a nasty elbow injury in the fourth quarter, simply had no good options to deal with constant pressure, and was sacked four times. As the Seahawks prepare for the second half of the season, this is the kind of performance they will be looking to replicate in order to stay on top of the NFC West. Frames from Tory Horton’s first of two touchdown catches in the first half of the Seattle Seahawks’ road primetime win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025 at Northwest Stadium.

(Photos via the Seattle Seahawks) From the very beginning, Darnold was in control. After the Seahawks defense forced a quick punt from the Commanders, Darnold began leading his offense on a long, 90-yard march downfield. The Commanders had no chance at stopping them. Even a 15 yard chop block penalty on fullback Robbie Ouzts did little to halt the momentum of the Seahawks’ onslaught. Kenneth Walker III made his strongest contributions of the night, picking up 21 yards across three consecutive carries.

The final capper was a four-yard pass to the corner of the endzone that hit rookie Tory Horton perfectly in the hands. Even though star receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (surprisingly) didn’t make the touchdown catch, he still made an impact on the play as, like a wandering star, he collected three orbiting Commanders defenders, leaving Horton in... Sometimes fear of JSN is enough. Darnold didn’t get much time to catch his breath on the sideline, however, as before the Commanders’ next drive could start to look threatening, an ill-advised howitzer pass by Jayden Daniels was picked off... Darnold was quick to move the ball downfield, sending it to his favorite target, JSN for 24 yards within just two passes. After a few rushes picked up 11 yards, Darnold dropped back for his eighth pass of the game.

To this point, he was a perfect 7 for 7 with 85 yards. Thanks to good blocking up front, he had all the time in the world to make his reads and find an open man. But on this play he only needed a few seconds. Tory Horton had broken wide open down the middle and had nothing but grass between him and paydirt. By the time he hauled in Darnold’s easy lob in the end zone, the nearest defender was still five yards behind him. Frames from Tory Horton’s second touchdown catch in the first half of the Seattle Seahawks’ road primetime win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025 at Northwest Stadium.

(Photos via the Seattle Seahawks) The Washington Commanders never had a chance. The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Commanders 38-14 on Sunday Night Football to improve to 6-2 on the season, dropping Washington to 3-6. It was the Commanders' fourth straight loss, but what happened in the fourth quarter will overshadow the result of Sunday's game. Quarterback Jayden Daniels, attempting to finish a drive down 38-7, rolls to his right and his thrown down by a Seattle defender. Trying to break his fall, Daniels puts his left hand on the ground, suffering a gruesome injury.
